petrol or diesel
Never bought a diesel before but need some advice on this Whoer's. The only thing that bothers me is the filter clogging up and costing a lot to replace. I do around 10-12 thousand a year, and know that diesel cars cost more but depreciate less.
Anyone gone from petrol to diesel and had a nightmare. ?.

Luckily, my brother is a tight cunt (shandyboy) and only put a fiver's worth of diesel in. I filled it up with petrol and the aforementioned redex to sort it.

Re: petrol or diesel
Annony, I believe petrol into diesel is the worst. However, as long as the engine isn't started, it can be saved by one of extortionate call out companies who spend literally less than 5 mins pumping out the petrol.

In my case (diesel into a petrol), a bottle of redex and good thrashing of the engine sorted it out. Loads of smoke out of the exhaust but eventually it settled down.

Claret n blue, yes I am not sure which way around is worse, but I know it can cause much damage to the injectors and more I believe.

I was lucky as my wife called me from the petrol station to tell me that she realised what she had done and I told her not to drive the car. My wife's cousins partner arrived as was closer than me and syphoned the petrol out of the tank with a hose pipe, filled up with diesel and job done.

I remember when my brother (who posts on here) put diesel into my petrol car after borrowing it for a day.

When i questioned him as to why it was running like a bag of shit after he returned it, i mentioned it was petrol. He replies 'Oh, i wondered why the diesel nozzle didn't fit in the hole".

A 2.2 diesel is normally quite good for company car drivers, BIK.

However, the new Merc C350e offers better figures with a petrol engine. Yes, its a hybrid, but still a 2.0 petrol engine in there somewhere.

I'm awaiting delivery, expected Jan 2016, and it will have been a 10 month wait. Hope it is worth it.

Three of my best mates - Steve, Dave and Vin - work in the fuel industry and I asked them what was best overall. Steve said he liked petrol, Dave also preferred petrol and Vin, diesel.

I switched to deisel 5 years ago (BMW 525) from petrol & it's a lot cheaper to run, even though I do lowish mileage. I believe you only need to do a decent run every week or two to avoid problems. I doubt that I would go back to petrol now!

Get yourself a nice 540 scania sleeper cab tractor unit , mpg won't be what your used to but a superb piece of kit,
Joe Royal may disagree on my choice though. Diesel all the time check out the Skoda range they use vw engines and Peugeot use Citroen engines.

Get a diesel and run it on red fuel at 55p a litre.

When was the last time you see anyone pulled over and getting dipped? Even less likely with a car also!

Been doing it for years. Saved a shed load!

Re: petrol or diesel
My last 3 cars have been diesel, I prefer them but I do high mileage and mainly long trips. Your mileage is not particularly high and if it includes plenty of town driving forget it and stick with petrol.

Depends upon the age of the car you intend buying and as said, the nature of the miles you drive

Re: petrol or diesel
Newer petrol engines are getting so economical it seems pointless to shell out on the diesel unless you do serious mileage.

For 10-12k a year it's not worth it.
