Completely agree with you...
The second amendment is outdated...meant for much earlier times related to forming a civilian militia to defend the country hundreds of years ago...
/now it's ridiculous with over 300million guns... so many illegal and available to criminals...

UK deaths by firearms per 100,000. 0.26 people
Doesn't matter if they are bought in a legal or illegal way. having them legal and available isn't a good thing.

What additional Gun Controls would have prevented this shooting...???
Possibly ...iAutomatic Rifle Ban may have limited the casualties...but no guarantees...
All guns were legally bought...under strict California Laws...
Only outright gun ownership a la UK may have prevrnted this and other shootings...
Bur complete banning will never happen...unfortunately...

I agree, Caps, but so often schoolboy politics comes into play...along the lines of a government cutting a department's budget, so that budget head applying the cuts in a manner that worst affects the country (to show who's the boss), so you'll get, say, a 10% cut in the Home Office budget, so they apply that cut by sacking all the immigration control clerks (and not anyone in the management office, where the cuts would bring the most benefit), thus giving potential terrorists unfettered access to the country.
"Not my fault!" will go up the cry, "YOU cut the budget, not me, so it's ALL your fault."
Repeat as often as the day is long.

I would suggest something accelerated their time-table rather than them not being very good.
Whether they were told to bring their action forward or somebody at the venue said his wife smelt like a bacon sandwich is probably hard to tell, but this smells of a knee-jerk action.
