It's laughable that divs are now using the UK car industry as a stick to beat BREXIT with.

An interesting take from the BBC story on the Honda move.

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-47282603

"The EU and Japan recently struck a trade deal which lowers tariffs on both parties' car exports to zero.

James Atwood, deputy editor of Autocar magazine, said this could be a big factor behind Honda's decision.

"It allows Honda to produce their cars in Japan where most of their plants are and then ship them to the EU without having to pay the import tariffs they have been, which does reduce one of the reasons for needing a plant in the UK," he told BBC News.""

Why don't Honda see Brexit as an opportunity to build cars in the UK?

Surely our brave Brexiteers will relish facing this question as an opportunity to present what wonderful prospects they have in store?

'So why arent they closing their Belgian plant?'

Because they are mad and want to produce cars where there is no need for them to do so and they want to stop production of cars in the UK where, in the absence of a trade deal, they will still need to?

Or possibly, they think by the time that the EU deal kicks in, in 2026, they won't need to build cars anywhere in Europe because they will have a deal with the UK.

Or possibly, just possibly, it's because the Belgian plant is producing a car in an earlier phase in its production cycle and the decision has fuck all to do with the EU.

In a tweet, Mr Tomlinson said: "Honda are clear this is based on global trends and not Brexit, as all European market production will consolidate in Japan in 2021."

So why arent they closing their Belgian plant?
