I do believe you've finally reached stage 7 (acceptance). It's only taken you 3.5 years!

Pickled has constantly moaned about lack of funding and is now moaning at the prosperity of Boris spending too much?

Lay down the alcohol, man.

It's funny how some people see the term "austerity" as something inflicted on them by vindictive Tories.

It's actually what needed doing to cut out the years of overspending by profligate Labour policies.

What no politician (except Farage) dare tell you for fear of getting branded a racist, is that growing the population by 8 million people in the last 10 years after a recession brought on by bank collapses was bound to cause over spending and put pressure on housing, hospitals, prisons, schools and benefit spending.

The charity paid by the British taxpayer must be phenominal including borrowing billions to give away in "aid".

Fo

Partly, the sustainability and growth pact measures were basically trialled in the UK first. The Tories called it austerity for some reason.

You have to remember that SGP is being replaced, the new version includes taxation policy as well. Once they have nailed that, taxation and social benefits will be harmonised across the EU and certain states will be excluded until they meet the new fiscal rules

Russ,

It was meant to be recognition not insult. You have had to fight to remind MPs that you voted for it and they were supposed to deliver it and constantly politely skirmish with the likes of me who have flip flopped between ok lets get on with it and 'They have dilly dallied so much we might be in with a chance of a reversal'

The point being you can stand down on it now, it's going to happen.

I wholeheartedly agree.

But I do take a little offence to Leavers being asked to put down their battle armour. All leavers did was vote to leave, and they have had to fight Remainers for 3.5 years telling them they were wrong. Leave voters never caused all the division. The Remainers did.

But, hey, time to move on.

Rios' interpretation of austerity is an interesting one and not one as ludicrous as it first appears.
I think - and he will correct me if I am wrong - he suggests that austerity is not a universal misfortune the country suddenly slipped into by accident.
Rather it was a political and economic choice to break up the 'state' and the public reliance on it.
He's not wrong if that's the case.

If there was no austerity, why did David Cameron say that we were in "an age of austerity"? And why did Boris say that austerity was over and that it was wrong in the first place?

Looks like more rewriting of history, ie bullshit.

There is no austerity. There has been a fall in GDP per person whilst overall GDP rose. You have been forced to share the country's wealth with others.

The NHS is the 5th largest employer in the world with 1.7m employees according to a BBC article from 2012.

Finally we can get on with concentrating on issues people give more of a damn about.

The NHS has to be the first thing this new Government sort out.

Us remainers need to stop crying and accept it and the leavers put down their battle armour cos it's done.

What we now need to do is not let this government get away with dangling Brexit as a shiny bauble to distract us from the fact that their has been fuck all governing over the important social issues that affect us since 2017.

Start to reverse Austerity repay the people who voted for them.
