Most potent attacking performance since ...
|
Yesterday wasn't a complete performance, we started too badly for that, but I haven't seen us be so threatening for a very long time. I would have to go back to 1985/6 (Chelsea away, Newcastle home, Villa home), 1980/1 (numerous 5-0 and 5-1 thrashings) and 1974/5 (when we couldn't stop scoring for about a month, 20 goals in 4 games I think it was).
Anyone beg to differ?

a good test is the sunderland game. they've played well the last few weeks with a few of their signings settling in, so if we knock a few past them it'll be more impressive than yesterday

I remember us thrashing Brighton at the end of the season fairly recently. I think it was 6-0. Could easily have been 10. Vaz Te got a hatrick

Good to watch, but I couldn't help thinking just how bad Blackburn were. Then they went down to 10. Sunderland will be back to business as usual.

Unbelievable amount of reverse knicker wetting going on here. Blackburn are a load of pony and we were playing 11 v 10 for quite a while. We should be expected to spank them.
Do that against a premier league opponent and I will happily piss in my knickers

Winning 5-1 is never easy.
What I liked that we didn't sit back and say job done. We didn't want to scrape a victory.

Saw 10 minutes of a game between Excelsior and Ajax today at the gym.
Caught myself thinking "what's this shower of shit" when I realised I was spoilt. Nice feeling.

Re yesterday Blackburn weren't v good but I stand by what I said - I cannot remember a game in the last 30 years where we were so threatening going forward for so much of the game (60-70 mins) whatever the opposition, apart from the non-first team game v Coventry 6-0 in 1999

I'd do a lot more than that to him if he carries on the way he's going. Need to get him on a long deal asap.

Do you just go by stats when hiring, Tex?
Then you're even dafter than portrayed.
Hire the right man for the job. And yeah, he was 1st on my wish-list. %Gutted?

ED... yes...I underestimated Bilic...mostly due to lack of detailed stats re his management career...
He is doing very well...with a few blips this season...mostly due to poor starts in games against weaker teams...
But these are compensated for by excellent performances against Top Teams...
Well done Bilic...

Calm down...
It was good...very good at times...
but we still struggled in the early stages..
Blackburn had very little quality...made defensive and GK errors...seemed to give up after their red...
I was well pleased and very happy with the performance overall...and the goals...
We had Payet...supreme skill...and better players in all positions..
Full marks to Bilic for the good positive subs...
Lets see a similsr performance vs Sunderland and BFS......

As a long term supporter we used to give teams a good hiding on a regular basis whilst the next week getting stuffed ourselves but I must confess it's been a while since I've fancied us giving someone a good hiding but feel it could be coming back

Tex, we fucking smashed a championship side, I don't care what their form is, Bradford beat Chelsea a few years back, there are no gimmes in this game
