Popular foods you've never eaten that everyone else seemingly has
|
I don't just mean "popular foods you think are shit" or some obscure stuff you'd like to try.
Bloke in my office (late 20s) has just said that he's never eaten PIZZA before.
Still absolutely baffled that someone in the western world can reach adulthood without having once eaten pizza, but got me thinking.
Never had a Jaffa Cake til I was 23, myself. Never drunk a pint of Guinness. Some people might think they're a bit weird.
So any of you lot never had a curry? Never eaten Chinese food? Didn't have a sandwich til you were 40 or something?
Discuss.

"Evolutionary biology" is shorthand for biology with a focus on its evolutionary aspects.
It is perfectly possible to discuss, say, the functioning of the kidney for a very long time without mentioning how it came to function that way.

Stop saying "evolutionary biology" it's a tautology in the same way "energy physicist", "space astronomer" "paedophile spurs fan" or "spastic catholic" is.
If you study biology then you study evolution.

Spunk, most of the girls down in dagenham are always bragging about the copious amounts they've tasted.
Sadly I'll just have to take their word for it

Although I can eat seafood all day long I can't touch jellied eels.
When I was a kid on holiday I was watching some eels all grouped up in a little stream next to an outlet pipe. All of a sudden a dirty great Richard the third came floating out the pipe, sending the eels into a feeding frenzy. Bits of sweetcorn and fibre from the turd were floating everywhere as the eels squirmed about gobbling up the human shite.
Since then the thought of eating eel makes me feel sick.

I like oysters.
An afternoon at Leigh cockle sheds is in order 4/5 times a year.

About 100 years ago, oysters were a poor man's food. They were, quite literally, very popular.

I had it in Vietnam (it's called Hột vịt lộn there according to google).
Actually really, really nice. Like a sort of inside-out scotch-egg.
Only thing in that part of the world I ate that fucked me up was rat meat. Made me violently sick for days.

Just thought of one.
OYSTERS. Although would that be classed as a popular food?

Indeed.

Infidel 9:49 Tue Mar 15 I summed up the basic tenets of evolutionary biology with an economy of words that would draw gasps on any other forum, yet there would appear to be a total lack of appreciation.
Haha, that has to be up there with pickle's 'feared ft commenter'.

Dog meat is very popular in certain countries as well, can't see me trying that anytime soon.
Eaten horse tho in France, it's like very tender steak.

never had a phal or a tindaloo
About the only food I haven't been able to try when it's been put in front of me is "balut" - the Pilipino salted duck egg with duck embryo in it. The stench made it impossible for me to get it anywhere near my mouth (and I try just about everything else set before me, no matter how "exotic").
Mrs FEH and Far East Hammerette have no problems knocking the stuff back though, as do most people in the Philippines.

Amazing - the basic tenets of evolutionary biology summed up without the slightest explanation of how things actually change in the biological world.
I'm jealous.
