Speakers - Recommendations?
Looking for something to plug in the iPhone / iPad to give a decent sound around the house.

Something smallish or portable would be ideal. As long as it packs a decent punch. Bose, Marantz, whatever? Happy to shell out a few quid, if they do a good job.

Any recommendations from you gorgeous people?

Naim is fantastic stuff and will last forever unlike most consumer goods today.

As others have said, ultimately it is more about the source material and how that is reproduced than the speakers.

Rubbish in equals rubbish out basically.

The higher the quality of the reproduction, the more accurately it will reproduce any flaws in the original recording or reproduction.

So speaks long standing hi-fi nerd.

Re: Speakers - Recommendations?
Pointless to overthink this, compressed files (shit) through an iphone (shit) will equal shit regardless of speakers you pick.

A liberal spread of the Sonos Play1's around the house will probably do you just fine. No point spending loads if you're gonna play compressed music off a fucking phone.

BBC LS3-5A Speakers, small, but the sound quality is fantastic.
Also made with real wood.

I've got about 10 grand worth of vinyl and I'd never even consider selling it. And I'm always skint!

Yeah, good points... Still, hope a new speaker set will make MP3's sound marginally better.

I remember having 'mini-discs' that was a sort of short lived Betamax type thing around 1999 that sounded pretty decent on me Marantz stack.

Fell for the digital dream around that time and flogged ALL my vinyl that had built up over 20 years or so. Kicking myself now and am certain to spend the next few years hunting down classics to show the kids in future!

Re: Speakers - Recommendations?
Holy.

MP3s were shit in about 1998.
Any modern digital audio is as good as it ever was. The speaker will make the files sound far better or worse than the compression of the files.

If you download free files off the net then you have no quality control.

Spotify is the best option.

Just ploughing through your recommendations, thank you all, really appreciate it.

That Naim Audio looks well decent. Interesting article here about them and how modern MP3 music diminishes the quality of sound, which to my dismay, I never even realised.

I've got this and it's the absolute nuts, wireless so carry it round the house depending on what I'm doing, battery lasts ages, can take it in the garden over the park etc. fantastic bit of kit, my favourite possesion.

Got some 12" tannoy Cheviots for when I need some more oomph though ;-)

Re: Speakers - Recommendations?
For reasonably good quality for what you are asking for I would recommend ARCAM.

They will provide all you need and are very good quality.

Re: Speakers - Recommendations?
Find yourself a Richer Sounds and have a word in there.

I'm sure that some people go for Bose just because of the name.
