4 best 3rd teams?
What's everyones opinion?i thought at first it was a load of bollocks but it makes the final group game crucial to nearly every team as the permutations means that it will probably go to the 94 th minute somewhere and it will get intense as f## k

I think it is the reason why most group games have been shit. Fewest amount of goals scored since euros started..

Teams dont have to attack anymore. A couple of negative displays can still see you sail through.

Re: 4 best 3rd teams?
Personally I think it is a bit of a joke and there is no way a team that finishes third should go through. Preferred it when the Euro's were much smaller and the quality was top notch from the word go. The major plus for the Euro's used to be that once it came to the finals there was no dross at all. Now we have limited teams like Albania there. Not for me.

There is that. And the fact that being draw in group E and F leaves you at a theoretical disadvantage.

Overall, I love me some football every day but a lot of these matches are not great.

I think the new format has been a success. Has been great to see Albania and Norn' Iron' celebrating when they scored. Also, makes the third game of the league phase crucial.

About the only decent thing Platini did.

It would be brilliant if the final group games in every group kicked off at the same time. It's a bit shit for Albania having tonhangbaround for three days to see if they've done enough. It also minimises the chances of a big shock exit at the group stage as well

Re: 4 best 3rd teams?
Gives the teams in the last round of matches, a big advantage. They will have seen the other group results and will now what exactly they need to do, to achieve a best third place finish. May even come down to goals scored.

When only the top two go through, the last two matches are played at the same time, so no team knows exactly what they have to do, at the start of the matches.

Re: 4 best 3rd teams?
It means some smaller teams have the opportunity of experiencing at least one knock out game. Teams like Northern Ireland or Iceland are now looking good for a solid third place finish, and the chance of experiencing the thrill of the knock out stages.

It also means that if England fucks up a game or two in the group stages, it's not all over.

Re: 4 best 3rd teams?
Seems an effective way of including more teams. Play offs would take to long and probably be dire defensive displays

It's made the last game crucial when the whole tournament should be.
