If Oxford is being held back for Sunday I assume somebody would have told him that was why he was missing out on Wednesday?

I would like to think it is a bit more than luck than decides whether a player we have extensively scouted settles quickly or not, I can accept when signing established international players that one or two might unexpectedly need time to settle but not all of them as it appears is the claim this season that is unless something else is not right at the club at the moment.

Re: Tweets from Browne and Oxford last night
But most our signings have come from big European leagues and have champs league and international experience

At the moment the quantity over quality approach looks like to have backfired bigtime

last season we were lucky that all of our signings seem to bed into the first team quickly, i was surprised at lanzini if im honest because of the league he came from. quite often players, even top ones, may need some time to adjust to a new league/culture/country etc. so no, just because a player may take a little bit of time to settle in that doesnt mean they are not good signings.

Re: Tweets from Browne and Oxford last night

I keep reading comments about players finding their feet but surely unless we were looking to write off a large part of the season while they do that then really anyone saying that is basically admitting they are not good signings because unless we are talking about youngsters bought for the future other signings especially the loans should be expected to have minimal bedding in time if the club are doing their homework correctly.

One of the reasons we did well last season is that nearly all the signings had a positive impact early on once they appeared in the team, this season none really have that so in fairness blooding some of the kids last night might have more beneficial long term for the club than playing a load of players who I will be amazed if they are still here in 12 months time.

"Nordveit is still finding his feet " I guess with the Dogshit performances he has put in so far he needs to

Re: Tweets from Browne and Oxford last night
Im not sure what confidence has been generated among the "first" team with that performance.

None of these free's and loan players look like they are an improvement over last seasons first 11. Bar Alvaro and that because he is the only fit right back.

Slav should be blooding the young players against teams like that.

We are supposed to give young players a chance, thought that was the west ham way too

not sure why it's baffling, Nordveit is still finding his feet and last night was a good game to boost the confidence of certain players who have been struggling. and as has been alluded, bilic may be keeping oxford back for sunday so we have some pace in central defence.

Re: Tweets from Browne and Oxford last night
I think the feeling is that the youngsters would have given us a better chance of winning the game then Nord at CB and Calleri and Tore on the pitch

Re: Tweets from Browne and Oxford last night
We usually give a couple of youngsters a game in these types of fixtures but can you imagine if 2or 3 had played and we'd lost?
We had to bring the big guns on to nick a 1-0 as it was.

Unless Bilic has decided to shake things up by playing Oxford on Sunday...?

Re: Tweets from Browne and Oxford last night
It does piss me off that we seem so reluctant to give our talented youngsters a go.
Face facts, at the moment they cant be any worse than the so called first teamers.

Re: Tweets from Browne and Oxford last night
Oxford should have played last night. If he can't play against a league two team at home then why did we sell Tomkins ?

He was promoted to a first team member this season and we arent using him as one

The europa has fucked up the kids big time. The plan would have been to blood them in in that competition but we fucked it massively. I'm also convinced if we knew we werent going to progress Fernandes wouldn't have signed

Re: Tweets from Browne and Oxford last night
I'm sure I saw on Twitter (yes I know) from ExWhuemployee that Oxford is starting at the weekend and that's why he wasn't playing last night. That blokes usually a half decent source.

Re: Tweets from Browne and Oxford last night
Not sure he would be chucked in although starting a 16 year old pro away at Arsenal seemed to go ok.

Re: Tweets from Browne and Oxford last night
Is chucking in a 17 year-old the wisest move when the team is struggling?

Re: Tweets from Browne and Oxford last night
Oxford should have played last night, simple! Why play a midfielder who has done fuck all so far at CB instead?

We flogged off Tomkins pressumably because Billic prefered an ageing Collins (v poor decision as predicted) and because Oxford and Burke needed more game time and to know they are part of the club's plans.

We then loan out Burke and leave Oxford on the bench v a 4th division side in the 3rd round of the LC preffering a midfielder.

Nothing Billic is doing at the moment makes any sense. Square pegs in round holes unecessarily and continually mucking about with the defence from game to game whilst we are conceeding goals for fun.

I understand that but playing Nordtveit instead of Oxford was baffling

Re: Tweets from Browne and Oxford last night
Perhaps people inside the club know that Reece is as good as gone and don't feel like nurturing a future talent for someone else's benefit?

Brown should have scored in Europe, fluffed his lines.
