Upton Park Development
The East Stand extension was agreed years ago by Newham Council. The stand would've incorporated a tunnel to accommodate the bus garage. West Ham had this permssion years ago.
David Gold is talking shit.
Absolute shit.
Upton Park capacity would've been 42k.
It was all agreed.

The only owners we've had that were serious about investing in the club got fucked by the banking crisis.

I agree, I remember Eggy coming out on the pitch holding his grandson and I think they were genuine about their intentions to develop the club, but they couldn't have picked a worse time to do it.

As I recall, the West Stand was redeveloped further towards Green St so that the pitch could be brought across to leave more space for the East Stand redevelopment.

Would have been 42,00 proper seats as well, not fucking picnic seats that feel like your watching The Horse Of The Year show jumping at Olympia.

Crassus,

Would that have been the North Bank ending up alongside Green Street, or alongside Priory Road? I know this is all academic now as others have said but I still find it quite interesting to imagine how it could have been.

Shame upton park wasn't redeveloped property by Brown & co but thats gone now. We've sleep walked with the aid of misleading statements and modern marketing techniques in to the Olympic stadium. We should have been more vociferous 2 years ago when it mattered. All this bullshit of not being viable from the board is nonsense after all Tottenham have managed to rebuild their dung heap in a similarly urban residential area.

I truly believe gold and Sullivan saw the os a great investment opportunity and not the long term benefit of our club

Both the Boby More and Trevor Brooking stands were built with footings ready to support a third tier, no idea what that could have looked like though. Just remember being told that at the time by someone working on it.

Any truth in the rumour that the upper tier is still closer to the pitch than at the OS?

Crassus,
That would have been a good time to have done it (if they were bold enough)! Would have been a lot cheaper then, instead of wasting money tarting up all 4 sides. I remember the Chicken Run being rebuilt; I used to stand in the West Enclosure.

Think they were doing their own fucking .... the puffin botherers.
Said at the time when they were boasting that their bank was worth a billion that they should sell it and invest in footballers.
Obviously they foolishly didn't listen.

Harold

It most certainly was an option, fact

But it was when the Run was rebuilt, 68 I think

Re: Upton Park Development
Before them even: when the West Stand was rebuilt. Money was in place for the East Stand, but we got relegated!!

No chance Harold, that would have cost money. The Berks aren't interested in that.

I wonder if rotating the ground through 90ยบ, and shifting towards Green Street was considered, or was even an option.

Re: Upton Park Development
I wish Beardy would stop all this bullshit about how we have to move to compete. We did fine last season, and as said below we could keep all naming rights etc.

Newcastle have a big ground, so do Leeds. I'm assuming they're in the champions league this league?

Penners

Yep, afraid so

The maths would be interesting too

66k cheap seats against 42k expensive seats - what with us taking all the revenue from pies and naming rights

As said though, water under the sad old bridge

Re: Upton Park Development
As thats what its all about isnt it. Having thr biggest ground. Fuck the fact there are loads of empty seats, and some seats with supporters of other teams in them.

Some people are so far up the owners arse its unreal

Yeah, I'd really have enjoyed having one of the smallest PL grounds in London.

Great idea.
