NZ play at the World Cup after the longest qualifying run in history (not sure if it still is).
Playing midgets football - team was Chile as everyone had WC country names
Got a Raleigh Spider bike for my 7th birthday.
Scored my first 50 at cricket. Had to retire at 20, but if everyone else got out you went back in.
Probably went to school or something, not sure.

Had a Vespa 50 Special for my 16th birthday and fucked up my exams as a result of being out on it instead of revising.
Wondered if the Falklands War would run long enough for us all to be called-up!

Yeah the ESPANA 82 Panini sticker book was the only one I have ever completed.
Have it stored in a loft somewhere and am SURE it will make me millions on Antiques Roadshow sometime in the 2050's

My first proper contract job in Toronto - newly married and getting a good wage every week.
Lived in an apartment near the University and loving city life.
Football shown a week later so a main game followed by highlights on a Saturday afternoon.
Min thing I remember is the cold wind whistling down St.Clair Avenue and freezing everything that wasn't covered up..

If so it was my first game out of London with my school mates
Went Saturday of course to young being 12/13 for the above capers

That Brazil team, one of teh best Ive ever seen-Zico, Eder, Socrates etc
Italy 3 Brazil 2 classic match.
NIreland beating hosts - Gerry Armstrong.
Spain player Lopez Ufarte.
England crashing out after failing to score v Spain when semi fit Brooking and Keegan came on as late subs in a desperate attempt to get a goal.
Bryan Robsons goal after less than a minute v France.
Schumachers assault on Battiston in classic W.Germany France semi final.

Unfortunately the years of alcohol abuse mean that I can barely remember anything of my childhood, so the year when I was 8 is a complete no no!!!
Definitely happier times in general though, with not a care in the world.
