It's a personal decision anyway. If I were playing for England I'd have the courage of my own convictions and either wear a poppy to work, or not. I'd also take the punishment if it came, or stand against the punishment, as I saw fit. It would be my decision and nobody else's. Nothing to see here.

I don't agree with anyone wearing those little enamel badges on a pitch though. Could take an eye out.

Rules which are made by trusted, honest organisations should always be abided by.

FIFA, like UEFA, are another example of an organisation's administration and policies that have subularly failed to keep up with the times.

For last generations footballers, playing for one's country, representing the best that your nation had to offer, against a team of similar individuals was the peak of a player's career - what could showcase that you are, indeed "world class" more then bettering a select group of peers in your chosen sport.

These days, that is achieved on a weekly basis simply by signing up for a club competing in the Premier league...and possibly the European Champions League.

Nation vs Nation Association Football really is not what it once was.

FIFA have made a rod for their own back with this and have got their knickers in a right old twist. Over nothing. Typical FUFA. Run by cretins, dim-wits and crooks.

You could argue that singing the Marseiles last year at a game where France aren't playing was a political statement too.

Isn't the Prussian eagle which adorns the German national team shirt ever-so-slightly political?

Also the FIFA logo shows the Earth as a globe, which is obviously a political statement against Flat-Earth believers.

Fucking hypocrites.

Current one doesn't. Some previous editions did.
Years ago the German shirt had the swastika on it.
Surely that's the type of emblem FIFA is trying to outlaw.

Does the England shirt have the flag on it?

'However, not wearing the poppy on remembrance day is a political statement. It shows you disapprove of how British armed forces have been utilised by British politicians.'

Really?

MrTrentReznor 3:37 Fri Nov 18
Re: Fifa Take Action Against England & Scotland Re Poppies
I'm not English or Scottish (so like to think I have an impartial view in this) and I find FIFA'S stance on this illogical. Wearing the poppy on remembrance day is not a political statement. It's an act of remembrance.
However, not wearing the poppy on remembrance day is a political statement. It shows you disapprove of how British armed forces have been utilised by British politicians.
As was pointed out earlier practically every national football shirt in the world has the relevant national flag (a political emblem) on it. Other political/mythological emblems are emblazoned on shirts. The English cross of St George & the Scottish cross of St Andrew being just two very obvious examples.

It's a nonsensical can of worms.

FIFA rule states "players cannot wear "political, religious or personal slogans, statements or images".

In 2014, FIFA cleared the wearing of veils and turbans (after a requests from Sikh Canadians) in football. After deciding they posed no threat to INJURY. (So, the religious part was, apparently, always fine?)

And don't even start on FIFA's hamfisted, political judgements on Israel and Palestine Football Associations in the past.
