Why is Gareth Southgate the only candidate for the England managers job?
Big salary
Big payoff when you get the sack
Chance of a Knighthood

Mr Southgate has had a 3 hour interview today in what appears to be a one man contest.
Why is no one else either being considered or putting themselves forward?

Here's hoping he's successful.

I personally lost interest in the national team a few years ago.

Probably more to do with being unable to relate to any of the cunts (Sterling the prime example of a modern player) who play in it more than anything else.

Its a job you can only really fail at and it pretty much fucks your career when you do

Plus i think club managers would prefer the day to day running of a club side

I also think the FA is a poisonous organisation that most people want to steer clear of. It should be the ambition for all english managers managing at a high level, the fact it isnt says it all

The respective FAs won't agree to that though, as they would all have to be defunct and operate under one single British FA.

Maybe its time to fuck off all this England, Scotland, Wales, NI bollocks, have a British team...........

At least we would have 1 world class player in Bale.

Rooney needs to accept his England career is over and step away gracefully, or Southgate needs to grow a pair and tell him he won't be picked for England; gives Rooney the choice to either retire from International duty, gracefully, or he and his mates whinge he's being treated unfairly.

The FA should admit their mistake, and reinstate Big Sam.

I still don't know why the FA aren't all over Wenger. His contract ends the end of this season and he's the right age for it as well as having the right profile and ability to handle the scrutiny.

Shows you how far we have fallen when the runaway favourite for the England manager job is Gareth Southgate who if he had been offered a Prem or Championship job in the last year or so would have jumped at it. But he hasn't. But he can become England manager if he likes.

Sad state of affairs.

BTW, Eddie Howe should be OUR new manager!

If there wasn't so much racism in club ownership, then Ince would be the manager by now!!!

Re: Why is Gareth Southgate the only candidate for the England managers job?
Probably because there's a reluctance to appoint English managers in the top flight and it's going that way in the championship too. Same for players. Look at West Ham. Foreign.

I wouldn't be fooled by one game against Spain neither. Every time we don't play Rooney England look decent. We come back from behind on Germanys own turf to beat them without him, yet still decided to create a new role for him in the euros and keep him captain .

Southgate won't be any different from other managers (English or foreign) and bottle it when it comes to the crunch, and so will his players.

Re: Why is Gareth Southgate the only candidate for the England managers job?
I think it's all being looked into too much, simple truth is the players just aren't good enough.

Not a single one of them I would call world class and if all on their day our best player is probably Sterling, which says it all.

Rubbish defence, midfield led by Henderson, Jamie Vardy and a Rooney who is 4 years past it. Even Hart is inconsistent.

Don't be fooled by the Spain result that was their B-Team and we still ended up folding at the end with a 2 goal advantage.

I couldn't care who gets it now, Southgate won't be any worse than any other manager I feel as the players are all a bit gash.

More of a case that the only other candidate was Steve Bruce! enough said.

Sven

Apart from the fact that Sir Trev has absolutely zero interest in being a football manager and doesn't have anywhere near the right coaching qualifications?

Re: Why is Gareth Southgate the only candidate for the England managers job?
I'd agree that a low key approach and sorting out the system might be better

England have tried everything
The glamorous expensive foreigner ... Sven
The dour expensive foreigner ... Capello
The up and coming Englishman ... McClaren
The wise old owl ..... Hodgson
The respect the point merchant .... Allardyce

If he was a few years younger I'd give it to Sir Trev ahead of Southgate

Re: Why is Gareth Southgate the only candidate for the England managers job?
What I would add is that they need the system sorting out, rather than the manager per se.

It's a better situation to have a great structure and a decent manager to play his role within it vs a piss poor structure but expecting a big name manager to just be able to fix it all.

Look at Joachim Low in Germany- hardly a big name manager, but their system is fantastic and he's competent enough to run it.

Re: Why is Gareth Southgate the only candidate for the England managers job?
No other fucker worth their salt should want it, when you look at what's happened to the last 4-5 who have taken the job. It's a career killer. Reputations ruined by the job.

Allardyce
Woy (cunt)
Capello
McLaren
Eriksson

That game against spain was the first england friendly that I can honestly say I enjoyed watching.

The team was set up and played completely differently, and I think he got it pretty spot on.

Good luck to him.

The hierarchy want an Englishman and basically he is the only one interested.

Re: Why is Gareth Southgate the only candidate for the England managers job?
A classic case of right time, right place. Other countries have gave the gig to people already involved in the set up without great cv's, like the Germans after Klinsmann left, so it's not that unusual. The players seem to want to play for him which seems like half the battle these days. Whatever.

Re: Why is Gareth Southgate the only candidate for the England managers job?
Klinsmann Sacked by the USA but only just pipped by fat Sam for the England job, just shows how good our FA is at choosing managers........................

Gareth has this all but in the bag IMO.

You have to laugh.

Apparently Jurgen Klinsmann has been sacked by America, I would rather him than Southgate.

What has he ever done to warrant a chance to be the next England manager?
