Ashley Fletcher- he's one of our own
As far as I am concerned, Fletcher is the man now in the absence of Carroll and Sakho.

He's shown enough to suggest he's going to be good enough so I say give him every chance to become that and as soon as possible. Got himself in the right place to follow up last night and also celebrated enthusiastically, despite the surroundings, which I LIKED.

I like Fletcher...He has all the skills and from what I can tell the attitude and desire to learn and improve

On the Zaza thread I said before the midweek game against Man U that I had seen more from him in the brief sporadic cameos off the bench than Caller,Tore and Zaza put together.

He proved it on Wednesday

Re: Ashley Fletcher- he's one of our own
Suggested he's our main striker a week ago and got shot down.

Funny how after 1 goal peoples opinions change.

Calleri is in Argentina. We are trying to cancel his loan.

Callieri isn't an option , he is injured and will never play for us again .

Isn't Callieri injured?

Re: Ashley Fletcher- he's one of our own
Our current striking options are Fletcher , Zaza & Callieri.
None of whom have scored a Premier League goal.
After 13 games of a season I would suspect this is unique in the history of the Premier league

"To say he's the best option at the minute is also knee-jerk bollocks, of course. "

So, assuming Carroll isn't available, who do you pick up front instead of him?

Re: Ashley Fletcher- he's one of our own
A lot of variable comment on here and strangely most of it correct

Now I have been a huge advocate of his and believe he will be a top player but starting him against them was not ideal and it showed. He should have done weeks ago but he is full of endeavour, not lacking in skill and is the best we have available.

Persevere with him, against the lesser teams he will have more time, more support and score goals

He's good. Maybe a bit of a Freddie Sears. I wouldnt rely on him right now and I wouldnt play him upfront on his own

Looks promising.

But with him upfront we'll be relegated.

Re: Ashley Fletcher- he's one of our own
Clearly not one of our own, but a promising lad all the same.

To say he's the best option at the minute is also knee-jerk bollocks, of course.

The reality that he's not actually up against much might suggest this, but if he'd not have scored last night I'd suggest he'd also possibly be in the firing line for the rightful cunting that most of the others are receiving this morning.

A sense of perspective about his current level of development wouldn't go amiss here...

Re: Ashley Fletcher- he's one of our own
Fletcher is a promising kid who should be getting a few minutes here and there at the moment.
Unfortunately at the moment our two main strikers are on their death beds and the boy Zaza couldn't score in an under 12's match.
A girls u12 match.

Re: Ashley Fletcher- he's one of our own
Although the "one of your own" bit works as a barb against ManU supporters, it's a bit shit for the player himself.

Starting off with "your" and morphing to "our" makes him a welcome adoptee...

Bit like Kane the Arsenal kid

Re: Ashley Fletcher- he's one of our own
I wonder if Zaza will teach him the technique to the backwards shot.

That could open up some possibilites as an unexpected pass to a winger.

Re: Ashley Fletcher- he's one of our own
he's certainly the best of shit lot at the moment. I don't have a problem starting him on that basis, but we need better sharpish if we're going to avoid relegation.

Last night, he had a deer-in-headlights look about him until about 30 minutes into the game. Once Zaza came in, his chances more or less dried up, through no fault of his own, so it was about 30 minutes of passable football from him. Of course, that's 30 more minutes than we have had from Zaza all season. I'll also concede fletcher's been decent in his brief appearances earlier in the season, and he'll see weaker defences than the Manc's back line.
