Referee tonight - absolutely atrocious
Who the fuck was he? The number of cynical, late fouls on payet in particular and others that went unpunished, or uncarded. Absolutely dreadful. He let them get away with it time and again. One on Payet was so late and so bad I thought it could have been a red, to be honest. Our players needed more protection than that.

A fair few other head scratching decisions as well.

Still, a decent performance and 3 points! Sets us up nicely for Saturday.

3 - Making Burnley kick off after we scored, only to blow for halftime a nanosecond after they kicked off. That DOES MY HEAD IN, that does.

If he'd done his job properly he would have informed Nobes that his penalty kick was the last action of the half, and blown his whistle straight after Heaton saved it.

It appears that most refs don't apply this law properly (see Harry Kane against us and Lionel Messi against Man City in 2015)

"and anyone who is associated with or even supports Man U should just be ashamed for a multitude of reasons..."

wise words.

the worst he can be accused of was not giving enough cards. he was consistent with it, so I have less of a problem even though it benefited them more. both of the "bad fouls" on payet looked less menacing on replay and Payet was clearly embellishing. they certainly could have been worse, hence you want to discourage it. We've had much worse on the officiating end of things this year though.

Rojo's challenge last night was a fucking disgrace. He should be ashamed for doing it, the ref should be ashamed for not punishing it properly and Mourinho should be ashamed for defending it.

and anyone who is associated with or even supports Man U should just be ashamed for a multitude of reasons...

I didn't think the referee was too bad considering how poor the majority of referees are

He was far too lenient & should have got the yellow cards out sooner than he did, (against both sides) possibly trying to be fair

Payet got no protection from him

I think most referees would have given the foul against Kouyate rather than a penalty for us

I've never seen a game stopped so many times for head injuries, but that's down to the players

He was a joke. But to be fair we benefitted from his poor decisions to. Especially Carroll and Cresswell who definitely both lead with arms.

If you think he was bad did you see the ref in the Man Utd v Palace game. Jesus fucking wept.

The ref was just a bit out of date - hacking was abolished in 1863, promoting the split with rugby

Re: Referee tonight - absolutely atrocious
Throwing around yellows for slightly mistimed genuine tackles ruins the game.
The two on Payet were both yellows as its should have been when Obiang took out their player when he got past.

When Reid was pulled down that was preventing an obvious goalscoring opportunity and it WASN'T a genuine attempt to play the ball so it should have been a red.

Honestly I prefer refs not to constantly dish out cards. But the one on Payet that he let go was a disgrace. Also obiang did same thing of kicking their player over when breaking and didn't get a card.

The fake head injuries were a disgrace but that's fault of players not the ref.

Still can't quite believe how he didn't book the player who scythed Payet down in the 2nd half, when we were breaking from their corner.

Could have been worse Marcus Rojo hacking players down like its the WWE and the refs turn a blind eye.
Yet according to Mourinho the conspiracy is against him.
Think it's about time refs are made to come out and explain decisions as this is becoming all the more common.

I reckon there could be another football scandal on the horizon regarding refs.

Not the worse I have seen one week the Ref is throwing cards like confetti next week you get someone like this,

Very poor, should have been a few more cards

But in a way it was refreshing to see battles going on and tackles flying in

Re: Referee tonight - absolutely atrocious
No ref, or the governing bodies have worked out that if there is the vaguest chance of a goal scoring opportunity then the foul is committed in the other half, ie the attacking half. That snuffs out any attacking breakaway and also minimises yellow cards and rules out red cards.

Burnley did hat non-stop tonight, together with the head injury game, designed to slow down/stop play.

Maddley allowed it to happen. No yellow cards until the second half. In the meantime, Payet was hacked to pieces at least twice........no protection; that in an era of non-tackling, never mind malicious, cynical fouling.

A few arms were going in early on that also went unpunished, Carroll was incensed by a couple of the he clearly finished the game with a lump under his left eye!

Ref was very lenient towards them could have Emily had a red in the game.

Very glad for the 3 points though and everybody else around us lost.

Hull won't be easy though got to get into that early on.

Re: Referee tonight - absolutely atrocious
He looked woeful on the stream I was watching - really disappointed that duchess clearly went for the mourinho style of cynical fouls that prevent building up play and attack the oppositions best players

We also should have had a penalty for handball after about 20 minutes

Still we won thank fuck

El Scorchio 1:35 Thu Dec 15
Re: Referee tonight - absolutely atrocious
Sarge- I'd rather he gave players such as Payet adequate protection by using his cards to dissuade the opposition from openly kicking him when he's trying to break with the ball. On another night, Payet could have been injured and then unable to play for a month.

If he doesn't punish such behaviour, then the Burnley players are just going to keep doing it, as they did.

Re: Referee tonight - absolutely atrocious
What do you mean, who the fuck is he? That's Bobby Madley, the bloke who fucked us over at Chelsea last season. How could anyone forget that muppet.

Re: Referee tonight - absolutely atrocious
I prefer someone who keeps his cards back for something worthy than one of those who thinks he's a croupier

El Scorchio 12:51 Thu Dec 15
Re: Referee tonight - absolutely atrocious
Another ref would have booked 4-5 of them rather than just 2, and probably sent one off.

Every time we were on the break the player with the ball was absolutely scythed down, and it was obvious the Burnley player's intention was to take out the man rather than win the ball.

Talking of commentators, I was very surprised when we let Tony Gale go, and flogged him to Blackburn. Now I realise why. He is SO fucking boring.

Agree about the ref. Terrible.

Re: Referee tonight - absolutely atrocious
I thought most of the players from both sides were much worse than him. Players rolling about with fake head injuries, players wanting other players carded for every slight touch. Modern footballers are big fannies, true story. Thought the ref was ok.
