I think it's a lesson that a 19yo tallish centre forward is not a write off as some seem want to do.
Kane is an unusual case in that as I understand it his dramatic improvement was due to persistence and relentless hard work on his weaknesses.

I'm not sure mongface is a reference point for anything in particular. A freak occurrence. Series of shit loans of very little note and very little impression. We probably could have picked him up for a million quid at various points, particularly after he scored the OG at our home.

Re: Antonio Martinez
Maybe the answer is to not expect a 19yo to be a world beater in his first season
Harry Kane is a very good example of players who looked shit but through development and hard work made a leap when they were ready.

Re: Antonio Martinez
This seemingly conveyor belt of youngsters who we send out to lower league sides on loan and struggle is getting fucking ridiculous now. Who knows what the answer is.

Re: Antonio Martinez
Watched him play against Charlton about a month which Oxford won the game but Martinez did little to impress and was subbed in the 2nd half.

The most noticeable thing was how a few of the Oxford players seemed to be constantly on his back but didn't act like that to the bloke who eventually replaced him.

To be fair the Oxford fans seemed to have taken to him and were regularly singing a song about him, equally he has always looked good when I have seen him for the U23's but that night at The Valley he really did struggle against a pretty poor Charlton side.

Re: Antonio Martinez
he may well still turn out good

I was more posting to make the point that calls to bring him back and start him would seem to be a little over optimistic at this stage

Re: Antonio Martinez
Could it be that certain types on here got overexcited about a player that actually wasn't that good? Would be the same as any other season on here since time began.

Re: Antonio Martinez
Odd that he has been left out but think they are playing a different system .... with worse results
Beaten 4-2 at home by Bolton last night and he got 15 mins at the end.
May well be being given a rest as I guess it's his first season against GROWN MEN
Hopefully will get a run of games to finish the season

Re: Antonio Martinez
Spurs probably would have as well if not for the managerial genius Tim Sherwood who picked him instead of Soldado.

Re: Antonio Martinez
One thing is for sure - if Harry Kane came through the West Ham youth academy, we would have almost certainly released him when he was 20
