Has anybody ever had one of these?

Every year for the last 17 yearswe perform the same dance
A) They send me a letter saying they owe me 5000 quid
B) They send me a letter saying I'm under review
C) They send me a letter demanding I pay them nothing on pain of prosecution

I have no income or property in the UK

Is it common to receive about 10 different Notice of Coding letters every Jan / Feb as I always get?

This isn't the best news, HMRC cannot be reasoned with and write all their documentation so badly that it can be interpreted any way they feel like interpreting the badly written rules. You can be sure that you will owe them something, it's just a matter of how much.

if you have declared everything then you have nothing to worry about.

I had a French version of one of those. It was a nightmare made difficult with the different languages and interpretation of my completely legit English pension scheme that just doesn't exist in France.

After 3 meetings with increasingly senior officials they incorrectly fined me nearly €4,000. I appealed successfully which cost me nearly €1000 for a French accountant's time but never once got an apology or payment in compensation.

Tax officials can be right bastards in all countries....

Yeah & it fucked me right over, in the end, after months of arguing, my accountant is the bollocks we did a deal for about a third of what they wanted, which enabled me to keep my business afloat, just. & no I'm neither Starbucks or google...
Good luck..

Yep. You're fucked.

They can and will access everything without your permission, if they haven't already.

Happy new year!
