I don't think so on the way we have been performing this year so far!.. i'm not getting carried away yet with the last 3 games points tally...i mean we struggled against Burnley & Hull big time at home and didn't deserve the points we got, we beat an awful Swansea team who to be fair had a few chances against us!!
Jury is well and truly out until the performances pick up consistently

Re: Can we get into the Europa Cup this season?
Unlikely, but we can.

But staying in it long enough for it to be worthwhile is as improbable as Zaza getting the Golden Boot in the next World Cup.

The Champions fucking league or bust, got to be third place, don't fancy the qualifiers.

I'd be as happy as a pig in the brown stuff, if we finished the season in tenth and won the FA cup.

If we sign fellaini I reckon we could win all the 20 games left.

Thing is, I hate to say it but I'm not sure it'd be a good thing if we did qualify. I was absolutely gutted when we went out this season, rarely been more so, but it arguably fucked up our summer and early season.

It's not like it helped us attract a better class of player. Maybe we'll have learned from it but I have no confidence in our board's ability to build a squad with the requisite strength in depth.

Christ it was only 3 or 4 games ago everyone was screaming like a queen that we was favs for relegation... now it's Europe???

You gotta love this nut house....

Re: Can we get into the Europa Cup this season?
The FA cup option isn't really much better in terms of games played. Obviously it would be great to win a cup but in terms of games played it makes not a great deal of difference. Don't know why we'd quibble over which route to Europe in our position, that of a shit side.

Re: Can we get into the Europa Cup this season?
Does the Europa Cup attract the types of players we need to bring the club on?

Sure, it is "European Football", but it's Poor Man's European Football and with 28 games or so to get the chance of a pop at a pot it adds an awful lot of overhead to the season.

As mentioned previously, the FA cup is the way to go if proper European football is the dream/ambition and give the Pikey Pot a swerve until it's reformed into a competition fit for the game and not the TV company bank accounts.

Yes we can but I don't think we will.

Nail on the head. Comes to mind.

Re: Can we get into the Europa Cup this season?
I honestly hope we don't in many ways. A 3rd dismal campaign would be shit all round, for next season and prospects. (no top, top, top player wants an early start to the season playing away in Bulgaria).

Get safe (we will!!) and smash the FA Cup - old school style, with Carroll and Antonio causing MAYHEM.

And then we.... oh....

Re: Can we get into the Europa Cup this season?
As per the other thread on the Bob Bradley sacking and how the once heralded "Swansea model" has come crashing down...

Vexed might be pessimistic ( I am definitely that way after almost 60 years where only 6 or 7 seasons have been successful at the very top of the game) but he unfortunately is closer to reality.

Despite the odd exception (statistical anomalies) the richest clubs win everything more and more as the financial model favours the elite top 4 - 6. You get to the Champs league and get more money, higher place in the league is more money, you build foreign fan base as billions of Chinese etc.. only want to follow the "winners" of things.

The Europa has been devalued and is the Championship equivalent and without a large squad threatens the financial rewards of the Premiership. You can earn more from being what.. 5 - 10 places higher in the Premiership than winning the Eu"ropey" League probably ? Might be wrong (often am) but its only attraction is a possible place for the winner in the financially rewarding Champs league?

As I said on the other thread, our owners are generally well intentioned, there claims of challenging the big boys and the hype / drip feed marketing is what puts me off them. Setting unrealistic expectations.

We will never win the league with their level of investment and fortunes. We are highly unlikely to make the top 4. It is even becoming a struggle to win an FA Cup or League Cup in the "TV Money" age as we have shown over the last 36 years as a potless club that made one FA Cup final.

The best we can hope for is to make 5th or 6th at the very most. Does not mean you do not try to get higher but that is the reality.

I wish we could rebuild the academy and develop our own players again. That is what I enjoy seeing and it would also be nice to go into seasons without worrying about the threat of relegation but we are not even there yet.

The odd win over the elite 4 - 6 clubs is the cherry on our modest cake IMO.

Its all about money if you correlate success to finances over time and as I mentioned the financial rewards / model is geared to make the successful clubs even stronger and the gap between them and the rest will continue to grow. Only the King of Saudi Arabia buying a club like us will change that.

With the current ownership, I accept it and will be happy to just see us as a club that is a fully established member of the top league (we are still struggling with that), has a base of home grown players and can give the top teams a black eye from time to time.

Happy New Year ! ;-)

Re: Can we get into the Europa Cup this season?
based on what we have seen the first half of the season that looks unlikely.

it is entirely possible of course points wise especially if the spots include 7th place again.

I think what happens in January will show us whether the board have that ambition still this season, or are happy to just stay out of relegation danger.

I'd hope we could have a realistic go at the DOMESTIC cups.
Drawing teams other than Chelsea, Man U & Man C might help

Re: Can we get into the Europa Cup this season?
Bar a disaster the top 6 is out of reach. 7/8/9/10 is likely the three I listed below plus us. In what order I have no idea - let's see what January brings.
Expect West Brom and Watford to drop a few places.

Most predictable PL season ever???

Re: Can we get into the Europa Cup this season?
Let's not get carried away by a few results against the 3 worst teams in the league. Top 10 would be an achievement, in and around Everton, Southampton, Stoke etc etc.

Re: Can we get into the Europa Cup this season?
Definately not, our poor start to the season has put this hope to bed, not even sure if our players have the bottle for it after the last 2 seasons
