Films for 2017
Top picks of films due for UK release in 2017:

Dunkirk (Chris Nolan)

Untitled Paul Thomas Anderson Fashion Project
(PTA and Daniel Day Lewis again, sign me up. Might end up being 2018 though)

Silence (new Scorsese, out today)

Star Wars episode VIII

Alien: Covenant

War for the Planet of the Apes

Blade Runner 2049

Manchester by the Sea

La La Land (I'm not usually a big musical fan but Whiplash from the same director was so good, and Emma Stone & Ryan Gosling are disgustingly talented so it might work)

The Handmaiden (Park Chan-Wook)

Kingsman 2: The Golden Circle

T2 Trainspotting (slightly concerned about this though)

The Dark Tower (Stephen King adaptation)

Baby Driver (Edgar Wright new film)

The Death of Stalin (Armando Iannucci)

Happy End (Michael Haneke's new film, if it comes out this year)

You Were Never Really Here (Lynne Ramsay new film)

Toni Erdmann (critical darling on the festival circuit in 2016)

Elle (Paul Verhoeven + Isabelle Huppert)

The Zookeeper's Wife

How to Talk to Girls at Parties

Ghost In The Shell (seems to be blasphemous for fans of the anime but might be fun)

Spiderman: Homecoming
The Lego Batman Movie
Justice League
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2
Wonder Woman
Logan (Wolverine)

And even though it's TV, a special mention to the new series of TWIN PEAKS. Which I can't wait for.

NOT looking forward to: yet another Transformers film, yet another Pirates of the Caribbean film, the Emoji Movie (yes, seriously), Power Rangers, Baywatch....

You cunts?

This weekend I watched..

Elle - Good, well paced, if not a little weird.

Kingsman 'Secret Service' - Hadn't seen it before, it was decent with some great scenes in the pub, but felt like one of them films that you had seen many times before. Won't be rushing out to watch the second one.

Wind River - Decent, but won't live long in the memory. Had a bit of a tv movie feel about it.

Taking my son to Blade Runner on Sunday and looking forward to it a lot.
Arrival was my favourite movie of last year but the ending had me in floods. My partner's daughter dies four years ago at 14 so it hit hard but helped too. Although notionally a sci-fi movie it really is more about the human condition so Villeneuve is a perfect fit for Blade Runner.

Wind River - Is very good. Taylor Sheridan is a great writer/director. Teamed with Villeneuve on Sicario

TWO amazing films coming up

Geostorm with Gerard butler

And jigsaw, the saw sequel/reboot.

They must be amazing because still no one has seen them and there's been no advance screenings so it must be because they are so good the world must just be made to wait

Re: Films for 2017
I enjoyed the second Blade Runner much more than the first Sold.

I found the first slow in a lot of parts whereas the second had me hooked from minute 1 until the end. I think that may have something to do with the fact Denis Villeneuve directed it though as Prisoners is in my top 10 movies and I don't think Denis has made a bad movie.

I'm so glad blade runner turned out to be a worthy sequel, it could so easily have been fucked up.

Re: Films for 2017
Atonement, Not being wacist but why the black fella at Dunkirk? Must have been a token gesture. He was on screen for 5 minutes before disspearing now I'm worried because I don't know what happened to him, hope he wasn't captured by the Nazis

Got around to watching Creed, as I expected pretty shit, but it's ok.

What is Elle like? I've got that to watch.

Re: Films for 2017
I thought Blade Runner 2049 was visually stunning, had me hooked from minute 1 until the end, didn't feel like a nearly 3 hours movie and I actually enjoyed it more than the first film.

Another outstanding score from Hans Zimmer as well, he only joined the project in August 2017 so he must of knocked that out in just over a month, the man is a real genius.

Re: Films for 2017

I agree. Of course having Denis Villeneuve as director of Blade Runner 2049 is a big plus as he's the nuts. Just see Sicario and Prisioners for that.

For me Ridley Scott's directed nothing good since Kingdom Of Heaven. Robin Hood was shite. He's producing a lot of good stuff. I can't wait for the The Terror series he's doing. Great fan of the book by Dan Simmons.
