Films for 2017
Top picks of films due for UK release in 2017:

Dunkirk (Chris Nolan)

Untitled Paul Thomas Anderson Fashion Project
(PTA and Daniel Day Lewis again, sign me up. Might end up being 2018 though)

Silence (new Scorsese, out today)

Star Wars episode VIII

Alien: Covenant

War for the Planet of the Apes

Blade Runner 2049

Manchester by the Sea

La La Land (I'm not usually a big musical fan but Whiplash from the same director was so good, and Emma Stone & Ryan Gosling are disgustingly talented so it might work)

The Handmaiden (Park Chan-Wook)

Kingsman 2: The Golden Circle

T2 Trainspotting (slightly concerned about this though)

The Dark Tower (Stephen King adaptation)

Baby Driver (Edgar Wright new film)

The Death of Stalin (Armando Iannucci)

Happy End (Michael Haneke's new film, if it comes out this year)

You Were Never Really Here (Lynne Ramsay new film)

Toni Erdmann (critical darling on the festival circuit in 2016)

Elle (Paul Verhoeven + Isabelle Huppert)

The Zookeeper's Wife

How to Talk to Girls at Parties

Ghost In The Shell (seems to be blasphemous for fans of the anime but might be fun)

Spiderman: Homecoming
The Lego Batman Movie
Justice League
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2
Wonder Woman
Logan (Wolverine)

And even though it's TV, a special mention to the new series of TWIN PEAKS. Which I can't wait for.

NOT looking forward to: yet another Transformers film, yet another Pirates of the Caribbean film, the Emoji Movie (yes, seriously), Power Rangers, Baywatch....

You cunts?

Went to see Blade Runner 2049 fearing the worst and was so happy that they were completely unfounded,
Saw in iMax 3D and it the most convincing dystopian world since Dredd. It looks beautiful and the glacial pacing makes the sudden bursts of violence more shocking, The pace reminded me of The Shining a bit.
My 14 year old son loved it too (we had watched the directors cut of Blade Runner the night before).
Thank fuck Denis Villeneuve directed it. On current form Ridley Scott would have produced a dog's dinner,

Talking of wtf, watched The Babysitter last night (Netflix film)

First film I've watched where I did literally say WTF at one point.

Mrs summed it up perfectly by saying "that was the best bad film I've seen in ages"

PS don't watch the trailer- it will ruin a lot of the WTF

PD I watched Elle again recently and would give it a 7/10

Watched a cracking thriller I had never heard of last night called Stonehearst Asylum from a few years back some clever twists and would recommend 7.5/10

Only new one seen recently is Get Out and thats well worth a watch. Also watched a couple that if you have missed you should watch The Boondock saints 8/10, Mr Brooks 7/10 and The Assassination of Jesse James by the coward Robert Ford is excellent, great acting and visually excellent

Some more upcoming films that haven't been mentioned worth keeping an eye out for maybe:

Borg v McEnroe (Shia Labeouf, about their rivalry)

Thor: Ragnarok (Another comic book movie)

Breathe (Andy Serkis directional debut. Andrew Garfield in a true tragic story)

Murder on the Orient Express (Remake. Kenneth Branagh directs and stars as does Michelle Pfeiffer, Daisy Ridley, Judy Dench, Johnny Depp, Penelope Cruz, Willem Dafoe, basically a stellar cast)

Suburbicon (Coen Brothers, George Clooney directing, Matt Damon lead)

Wonder (Jacob Tremblay, from Room, stars as a child with facial differences. This kid should of been considered for the Oscar for Room)

Stronger (Jake Gyllenhaal in true story about Jeff Bauman who lost his legs in the Boston Marathon Bombing)

Re: Films for 2017
This weekend I watched..

Elle - Good, well paced, if not a little weird.

Kingsman 'Secret Service' - Hadn't seen it before, it was decent with some great scenes in the pub, but felt like one of them films that you had seen many times before. Won't be rushing out to watch the second one.

Wind River - Decent, but won't live long in the memory. Had a bit of a tv movie feel about it.

Taking my son to Blade Runner on Sunday and looking forward to it a lot.
Arrival was my favourite movie of last year but the ending had me in floods. My partner's daughter dies four years ago at 14 so it hit hard but helped too. Although notionally a sci-fi movie it really is more about the human condition so Villeneuve is a perfect fit for Blade Runner.
