Manor Park/Forest Gate pub advice.
My best friends father died this week and he liked a drink , so in a weird sort of tribute we was going to go and visit a few pubs in the area and raise a glass to him.

Problem is the three pubs he used the most are long gone (Odessa Arms, Earl Of Essex and The Princess Alice) and the two of us never really went drinking that way so have no real idea what's still open.

Pubs he wouldn't have gone in are the Golden Fleece and the Ruskin Arms.

Over to you.

Ps , for anyone that knows me it was Gary's dad.

Gents , it's not a wake it's just a couple of us visiting a few pubs where he would have gone and having a few beers in his memory.

Yogib - will do.

Odessa Arms is a weird name for a pub.

I think a lot of pubs and streets around there were named after the Crimean War - Odessa was a battle and there was an Alma pub, not sure if its still there.

Agree the Fleece is best place for a wake, theyre used to them and cater for them.

As already mentioned, Forest Gate Hotel and the Goden Fleece. Both old locals of mine and still pop in from time to time cos my mum lives just round the corner from both.

Holly Tree used to be our regular after knackering myself playing Sunday football on the flats.

Loooong time ago!

No idea Joe.

Also the HOLLY TREE on Dames Road. It's like the Golden Fleece a bit but up the other end of the flats.

Do miss drinking round there tbh

Joe - the Fleece is a decent little boozer now - was in there after the Palace Game for a function.

Pass on my condolences to Gary

For the refined drinker, it has to be the Wanstead Tap Ltd.

It's in a rail arch and has distressed furniture.

Sorry; Forest Gate Hotel, Sebert Road. Proper corner pub, not many left anywhere. Gets surprisingly busy.

FGH?

Fleece is still there, FGH is still there, both really decent.

Tavern by the station is hipster as fuck but a decent place and can get quite lively (in a good way), plus it's fun to laugh at the Clapton Ultras when they all pile in there.
