Documentaries
Need something new to watch, so thought it was time for another of these. A couple to get things going.

Milius (2013) Feature length documentary about the man who gave us everything from “Feel lucky, punk?” to “I Love the smell of napalm in the morning” and much more besides. Scorsese, Coppola, Spielberg et al line up to pay tribute.

Youth Terror, the View From Behind the Gun (1978) ABC News documentary about youth crime in New York. One for fans of ’80 Blocks from Tiffany’s” etc.

And before anyone says it: Couple of clips from the 1977/78 Thames series “This Sporting Land” Sadly, the second one’s silent stock footage, but you can’t have everything. Anyone on here spot themseves?

The Vietnam War 10 parter finished tonight... for me best series of its type since the World at War.... masterpiece from all involved

Agreed - miles better than anything ive seen - the content alone is unique. Id never heard the nixon/kissinger phone conversations before.

Also very telling that the same mistakes are still being made all over the world by US politicians..

watched the Mick Rock documentary, SHOT. its not a bad film but he does get a bit pretentious in parts of it. can't deny his great work, though even he admits and shows where he nicked ideas from various older films and album covers. no doubt he's lived a fascinating life though and made friends with some genius musicians

The Vietnam War is indeed excellent as is pretty much anything by Ken Burns particularly The Civil War and Prohibition,.

Re: Documentaries
the ultimate cheap shot. probably why it wasn't in the film, sucker punches or hitting from behind is/was frowned upon by these fellas

That Mr.Big thing was mind blowing!I'm amazed the defendants didn't smell a rat it was so obviously coercion, badly executed coercion at that. They might have well sat there in full fucking uniform.

Re: Documentaries
sanfran, I agree. none of them are completely clear as to who's right and wrong. just amazed that shit like that 'Mr Big' tactic was allowed in any western country and the evidence permissible

Watched that first episode of The Confession Tapes.

Hard to draw any conclusions to that case, everything was equally dodgy on both sides, imho.

Re: Documentaries
started watching THE CONFESSION TAPES on netflix. if you like Making A Murderer, you'll love this. each episode/s covers a specific case where the conviction rests on dubious confessions and police practice. the first case covered is over two episodes but explaining anything will only spoil it, another five cases are covered over a single episode for each. going on how good the first episodes are, I've no doubt they'll film more. it's just scary how fucked up the judicial system is over there

Re: Documentaries
watched 'ICE GUARDIANS' on netflix. a doc about NHL enforcers and why they do it. you don't have to be a fan of ice hockey, just of sport. a very good film featuring many tough characters. Billy Bonds is the closest thing I've seen in football to one of these fellas. very enjoyable
