McClaren sacked again
Steve McClaren has been sacked as manager of Derby County for a second time, just five months after he was reappointed.

Derby said they had taken the decision following a "significant, unexpected and persistent decline in results, team unity and morale".

Rams chairman Mel Morris said: "We need a manager who shares our values and who is prepared to develop the team."

He'll never recover from the England thing.

Weren't they in the relegation spots when he took over?

Can't say I'm his biggest fan, but some managers really do seem to have everything better PR men than others

Was losing 1-4 at home to us his last match as Forest manager?
And of course SLAVEN got him the sack at Wembley.

Have always struggled with his hair
Either needs to shave off the whole tufty mess or go the Full Conte and have the rug stitched in so that he too can look like Moe from The Three Stooges.

It's a mixed record. Did well at Boro, Twente, Derby the first time. Not so well at Newcastle or Wolfsburg. Like most managers employed by middling clubs, plenty of ups and downs in there - it goes with the territory.

We've had a good number of number 2s as manager and quite a few number 1s as well !

"I suspect McClaren is a very decent manager"

Do you? Based on what? Because you have never seen him manage up close and so you must be basing this on his managerial record; which is nothing to write home about.

Re: McClaren sacked again
A lot of number 2s also become good managers. I suspect McClaren is a very decent manager, as are his predecessors at Derby - Clough, Clement and Pearson. If every manager who got the sack was dismissed as hopeless there wouldn't be any left.

Alex,

A lot of number 2's are good coaches, Brian Kidd as an example, who then turn into shit managers, no matter how its spun, Maclaren is a shit manager like Roeder, like Kidd.

He'll probably rock up at a league one or two side, about his level now.

Re: McClaren sacked again
Apparently he was a good coach, I think it would have suited us at the time, guiding young players coming through etc. Would have been happier to get him on the way up so to speak.

Re: McClaren sacked again
I don't think he's that much better than Roeder, both number two's, pardon the pun. Having Man U and England on his cv have allowed him to live a charmed life in the managerial world. We definitely dodged a bullet.

Re: McClaren sacked again
When he turned us down and we got Roeder instead I think he would have been.

Got to love football management, one of few positions where you earn more for failure than success. McClaren can join Glenn Roeder among the ranks of making a career out of it

wasn't he linked with the West Ham job a few times

It's probably worth them sacking him once more, before they re-employ him, just to save time.
