Was probably after this game that we all thought... you know what... we have got a bloody chance here... and if it was not for the never ending games v Ipswich in the cup that caused the massive fixture pile up then who knows... one thing I do know... it was fantastic fun from start to finish...

Rather than be one of the 40000 west ham that claim to have been there. I wasn't when I should have been. I was 13 and staying at my mates older sister's (no link) pub off finborough road, SW10 round the corner from SB. Got smashed the night before for the first time ever during a lock in the night before. Didn't make the end of the road come kick off before throwing up everywhere, went back to the pub to sleep missing possibly one of our best performances ever. Gutted?

Re: What a Performance!!
Sometimes forget just how bloody good we were then.

The speed and precision on the break, and two lightning-quick little strikers combining to set each other up or score themselves, nobody cared which.

And Parris booming down the left wing.

Soldo

Was that the year after in 87? The battle of the bridge when we were everywhere. In the shed, gate 13 and the west stand i think it was called. Carnage.

Re: What a Performance!!
No was not that one Sidey.... we all went to that and tried to get on the pitch when Pat Nevin scored ... got flung off the cage by a steward and landed on a bloke... was a proper lively old day out that one... the game I was thinking of we lost 1-2 IIRC... Clive Allen notched for us... horrible day out and horrible game... being kept in was the final straw for everyone... the place was getting dismantled big time

Re: What a Performance!!
Could that of been the '83 game Sold they was newly promoted and we lost 3-0 but our mob took the Shed yet again so that ain't a distinguishing factor.

Re: What a Performance!!
Probably my greatest ever West Ham memory. I must have been 17 and my late dad got us VIP tickets which included a meal before the game where we sat with some friends of his. One of them had a son who was a good mate of Steve Francis who was called up late to replace Eddie Niedzwiecki in the Chelsea goal. Great debut!!!

Then witnessed probably one of the best performances ever and it could have been more than four. Dev didn't have a splash of mud on him!!

I'll always remember because were in the VIP area we had to leave with the the Chelsea fans and whilst queuing outside my old man got absolutely covered when a pigeon decided to take a massive dump right over his head! To be fair to the Chelsea fans there were burger serviettes being handed to him by the dozen to help clean his specs and coat!! Doubt they would have helped if they knew we were Hammers fans!!!

Re: What a Performance!!
That's the real Chelsea:
Shit pitch
Shit ground
Open terrace miles behind the goal
And a spastic drive-in

Before the mass murdering money launderer turned up

My birth year.

That McAvennie finish and celebration is so iconic.

Re: What a Performance!!
You see Alan Devonshire gliding over that rolled mud and imagine what he would have been like on today's pitches with no tackling from behind.
Magical

Always makes me smile seeing the chap in the wheelchair behind the goal celebrating.

Disabled areas have certainly come a long way since then :o)

' What a performance' that is something I would like to have said much more this season

Re: What a Performance!!
The best thing about that game was the Chelsea fans singing "McAvennie is a w**ker" right at the point he banged one in the top corner. Shut them right up the muppets. We played some great stuff that year and having two fit and decent goal scorers is a lesson we have never forgotten!!!!!!

Re: What a Performance!!
I remember it well. What makes me really laugh is how many people claim to have gone! If we were to believe them all then we must have taken about 35k. For the record I never went!
