Uber or Black cabbies have to turnover 85k+ to pay VAT, so not worth their while working all the hours to pay an additional 20% to Hmrc. Most customers pay via card in all industries nowadays so all is documented on bank statements, can be minimal fiddling. It's not the 70's.

It's all academic anyway soon when driverless taxis come in.

Uber drivers don't pay tax because they are slaves and earn fuck all and can claim tax credits.
Uber London is registered in Holland and thus doesn't pay the proper amount of corporation tax(about 1%).They also unbelievably don't pay VAT.

Re: Channel 4.9pm The Knowledge.
Seeing as most people pay by credit card and all black cabs accept them how on earth can they not pay tax?

When we changed to shift work in London Docks many of my mates did the knowledge and gained another good income but later they were offered a superb severance deal which they took and had the Black cab to fall back on !!!!

Was like winning the pools :-)

Is this the same programme/documentary from the late 70's early 80's where on qualifying they all went out for a drink to celebrate and one of them gets done on his way home for D & D ??

If their brains expand so much ( after learning the knowledge) how come they talk so much shite.

Just watched it. Quality that.

How much respect both the testers and potential cabbies gave each other??!

Possibly true mate. But if it is 1am in central London and I want to get to my neck of the woods black cabs are a lottery. I ring Uber as you can absolutely guarantee they will take you where YOU want to go.

That's what I mean. In day and early evening black cabs everywhere. After 11pm and the fuckers are a waste of space if you want to get out of London.

Unless you are lucky enough to live quite near to there the driver lives they just drive off, the cunts.

They talk about customer service and all that bollocks. They are nice as pie in the day and early evening. But when it comes to late doors the fuckers only serve themselves.

Brentford having a dig at Uber for their drivers not paying much tax is ridiculous. I know black cabbies and I tell you they pick and choose which fares they pay tax on.

And when they finally select a late night fare that lives close to them (leaving young girls stranded in London as don't live near them) which basically pays them £75 for driving home from work; do you think they declare that?

Bloody hell.

You've clearly had a one off bad experience, because as someone who lives central and uses them a lot, apart from the odd couple of times, I've had great service, never rude and most of the time very polite.

It's sad for old school Cabbies, but that's the way the cookie crumbles. All the lies about what Uber drivers are like won't change that.

Re: Channel 4.9pm The Knowledge.
I don't blame people for using Uber and I'm cabbie. People just want to get home for as cheap as possible but all I'll say is these heavily subsidised fares won't last forever.

..so what was out excuse for not properly tackling Vodafone? They are a british corporation aren't they? I dont think brexit will have that much of an effect in regards of these large corps as I dont think there is that much of an appetite to tackle them.
As we saw with Uber they have our politicians right where they want them..
