Both Cole and Trevor Sinclair played on the left. At the time England didn't have a left sided player so I think both fancied there chances of getting selected. We also got Laurent Coutois around that time to play on the left but didn't last that long.

Well at that time we were playing wingbacks i think, and we had winterburn, minto and labant on the left. joe cole also played on the left wing.

Yes I got my timeline mixed up We let Hughes go because we had Stan We let Stan go because we got Keller Keller left so we didn't have a left sided player
Think it was the plan we still use in relation to right backs & fit strikers.

Sven/Alex,
Hughes left before Stan, Keller replaced Hughes, so no, we didn't go from 2 lefties to none.

I saw him play at Exeter on trial when 'Arry used to take our team on the pre season West Country tours. I think he scored in a 3-1 win. He had a good game that night, but to be honest, Birmingham was his true level. He was very gangly, to say the least, his legs reminded me of rubber bands that had lost their elasticity.

Didn't we get Marc Keller to replace them?

We had him and Michael Hughes so we let him go to Birmingham where he played for 7 seasons and helped them get promoted. Think we let Hughes go to Wimbledon a year later so went from 2 left sided players to nil.

I remember Harry in he bird banging in about what a great bit of business it was selling him because we made 5 times our money on him or some shit - as if selling a £100k player for £500k was brilliant. Idiots.
I always liked him - not a world beater but a solid pro. Very etherington-y

I had a picture taken with him at the Epping Forest's Country Club ..
We'd just been beaten by Everton that day at their place. I think it was one of the first games of the season. It was one of the few games David Unsworth played for us, before his missus had a strop and made him move back up north!!

Decent fella. Average player. Had some good and bad games for us. What he lacked in quality he made up for in commitment.

Sometimes you'd get the change in score but not the scorer on the full page - 303 or 304 depending on which division we were in at the time.

Those were the days. Watching the pages refresh until it came back to the one the West Ham score was on, wondering if it would update with a goal this time around.
Now I get really annoyed at not being able to watch any game live on the box in full HD....

BBC Teletext page 320 for that vidiprinter thing wasn't it?
Would have it on the bottom of the screen whilst watching snooker, or cricket or crown green bowls on Grandstand.
