Obiang: we've lacked unity this season
From KUMB:

One of the front-runners for this year's Hammer of the Year award says West Ham have failed to replicate their form of last season.

Pedro Obiang, whose season was ended prematurely back in March after sustaining a serious ankle injury during the 3-2 home defeat against Leicester also believes that the team have "under-performed" at times.

"The team has lacked unity," he said. "This year we've grown apart a little, the staff and the group as a whole have suffered as a consequence of it. It's normal though, there have been lots of changes in a short space of time. We can only learn from this experience.

"The team, the club, the players, even the fans will be better next campaign because this one has helped us realise that we didn't have all the right answers or ideas. Next year we should be aspiring for a place in Europe and there will be no excuses."

The former Spanish Under 21 - who is still unable to participate in any kind of running - also rather modestly claimed that his challenge for the HotY crown was perhaps the result of a number of key players failing to live up to expectations.

"My season has been quite low key," he argued. "I think I've stood out over the rest due to the fact that the rest have under-performed. That's why it's so crucial for me personally to keep my performances at a high level to really establish myself in English football.

"It's a real shame I haven't been able to help the team recently, but now I have time to recover, come back stronger, learn from my mistakes and transform them into consistency next year."

Re: Obiang: we've lacked unity this season
I think people are reading the wrong things into this. Said the same on another thread recently about how getting in 10 new first teamers in the summer wouldn't have been good for squad unity.

It's not only the new players that have to adapt but the current ones, both on the pitch and in training, etc.

This is one of the issues I have about getting in too many loans which have to be replaced the following year.

Re: Obiang: we've lacked unity this season
Why would he leave the Premier league to go to Italy?
Why would any black man want to live in Italy for that matter.
Seems a very intelligent guy which must make a lot of his time in football hanging around with HALFWITS a bit dull.
Hopefully he stays and has an even better season next time

I would not be surprised to see him leave in the summer.
Bound to be a lot of interest and I wouldn't be surprised if he went back to Italy.

Obiang , and this is wild speculation and guess work, appears to be one of those rare things in football.... an academic type of bloke, a thinker perhaps? Well he wears glasses and looks like a student hence 1 + 1 = 5 :-)

His humility is refreshing and maybe suggests he is telling the truth. So perhaps he is inferring / suggesting that there are cliques? Again just speculation.

Hope we build the midfield around him and that the manager next season ( Bilic or whoever ) recognises that need too.

That's completely different, as I said simplistic, ignorant rubbish.

Ok Johnson,

I'm sure Tevez's leading question when moving to China was "but does it have a running track?"

Stewing Griffin,

It's nice that you think players care more than just money, but they'd play on a school playing field if they were paid enough.

That's nice. Dont bother, take the summer off, son.

Mate of mine lives in the same apartment block as him. Apparently he's going to be fit for the last two matches, but Bilic has told him not to bother and to pick it up next season.

I don't need to read it, I know it

you'd only read it that way if you had a Essex sized chip on your shoulder.

Re: Obiang: we've lacked unity this season
More likely he means the players fucking hate playing in that cunthole stadium and are therefore not particularly happy being at the club, whereas last year it was a very happy camp

Re: Obiang: we've lacked unity this season
I wonder what he means by disunity. Maybe some of the players are unhappy with Bilic playing favourites.

It's Good to see players who aren't part of the squad make an effort to watch games, but all on your own?

Unity?

Got the train on his own to Stoke, sat on his own in one of the corporate areas, and went home on his own...

Not often you see that.

Re: Obiang: we've lacked unity this season
Indeed, comes across as very modest and humble. Not much of that in the game today.

I love our Pedro. Down to earth, honest and loyal. Oh, and he can play football a bit too.
