Porsche Cayenne
I need an old large car to lug stuff around and I have seen these porsches going for about £4K. Are they worth a look or will they blow up after 5 miles and cost me thousands to fix?

Any other recommendations on the best value 4wds that are comfortable please fire away

I reckon the price of diesels could go down if this is found to be the case and they have cheated on emissions.

The early 3.2L petrols have engines out of the Boxster and go quite well but tax bands changed about 2006 that increased it from about £270 to nearer £500. Most are automatics, rare to find a manual.
Finding anything under 100k mileage is virtually impossible and it wont be £4k

You wont get a diesel model for anywhere near £4k, more likely £14k if you're lucky.

The bigger engine petrol versions are high-taxed fuel guzzlers, hence their £4k price.

Tyres will cost you about £1500 a set.

Get an inspection done before you buy because if you buy a bad one your £4k purchase price will be dwarfed by repair costs and you'll end up scrapping it for spares.

Re: Porsche Cayenne
Turbos and V6s are broadly trouble-free apart from the V8’s original plastic coolant pipes under the inlet manifold, which should have been changed to the later aluminium ones. Each spark plug’s individual coil pack can fail, too, leading to a misfire. The big problem is the S’s Lokasil cylinder-coating failure. It starts with a sudden appetite for oil and an increasing knock, followed by a misfire as the bores and pistons are shredded. From first signs to death can take as little as 500 miles, and the problem can strike from around 70,000 miles. Turbos and later S models have a Nikasil coating which gives no trouble.

Re: Porsche Cayenne
I was looking into one of these as well but money wound only get me an early one and on further reading a lot had some sort of engine lining that could fail at 80k.

You don't see that many early ones on the road but you do see a few for sale.

It is a problematic decision between the Cayenne and the X5 as both have their merits.
Depends if you want to appear a bellend or a twat.
