Tel Aviv
Talk to me, great denizens of WHO.

I'm 1.5 days in and whilst it's like many Mediterranean countries (it'll be reasonable when it's finally built) I'm getting positive vibes.

What shouldn't I miss and what I should would be greatly appreciated.

Shalom

Re: Tel Aviv
I used to go to Tel Aviv a fair bit on business. Stayed just up the road from where simon.s said he stayed at the Herods Hotel mostly. Good bars around Rotshchild St. If you walk along the beach there up to the old part of TA there's some nice restaurants and shops there

Up towards that end there's a little square near the old railway line which has a cracking Tapas bar there - but watch out for the Bats dumping on you.

As has been said getting out at the airport is a bastard - allow about 3 hours and be prepared to get asked stupid questions like what are your parent's names, do you have any siblings and the like - the people that will check your passport in the queue are usually students - enjoy yourself I like TA.

Tel Aviv no problems good restaurants/bars everywhere it's the security leaving the place that is the downer.Keep all your Hotel Bills with you.

Yaffo is a good area to go to for food (Jaffa) Lots of good restaurants. When you get bored ,get a hire car and go out to the Sea of Gallilee and visit Capernaum in the north and Tiberius on the west coast. It's nice for a swim as well.
Restaurants there sell St.Peters' Fish which is vicious looking carp type fish...served with chips and a cold Macabe is wonderful.

I liked the old port, Carmel market is good for a wander and there's the best falafel stall there. Also a great craft beer place in the middle of the market, if you like that kind of thing.

I stayed behind Mike's Place by the American embassy, which was decent enough for a beer, open late too. Bars were plentiful from what I remember. Only there for a couple of days, would defo go back.
