Alvaro Arbeloa: Former Liverpool and West Ham defender retires
Well I guess this neatly sums up the limit of our ability to attract top players and you can sort of understand (Not excuse) a little, Payet's response to our summer of useless transfer ability.

1 season, 2 starts and 2 as a sub

Will we get any more milage from Pablo Zabaleta at 32 and now surplus to requirements at Citteh

Former Liverpool, Real Madrid and West Ham defender Alvaro Arbeloa has announced his retirement.

The Spanish full-back made three Premier League appearances for the Hammers last season before being released.

He spent three years with the Reds before returning to Madrid, for whom he made his senior debut, in 2009.

Arbeloa won one La Liga title and the Champions League twice at Madrid before signing for West Ham last August.

"It's time to say goodbye," he said. "Physically I was OK to keep playing."

He made more than 200 appearances in total for Liverpool, Madrid and West Ham between 2007 and 2017 and was capped 56 times by Spain.

Should be a worldwide rule that senior players only get paid for playing (except when injured) irrespective of whether it's their choice or the manager's.

Mmmm, good effort, but ultimately you are talking complete hogwash. The real reason he failed is a lot more straightforward.

He was a washed up, over the hill, uninterested, piss taking cunt, only here to top up his pension. The fact that he has now 'officially' retired only reiterates that.

He was just one of a number of piss poor signings by Super Slav last summer.

Re: Alvaro Arbeloa: Former Liverpool and West Ham defender retires
I'm sorry but I disagree.

Sure he was slower, but his positioning was SO much better than anyone else who got thrown into that berth last season. He was a proper right-back.

I think the problem was that Slav doesn't really want a defending right-back, he wants clever, explosive wing-backs and wingers that can drop back and defend as the right-back maraurds forward. Cresswell and Arthur can do it on the left and I'd love to see them both in the same side but we seem to have about 50 players who can play on the right but I wouldn't be confident with any pairing.

I'm guesing that Arbeloa had words with Slav about expecting him to make 60 yard runs out of defence every time we had the ball and a bunch of dumb cunts who seemed incapable of a telling pass to him.

It was easy to see that Slav preferred a runner rather than a world cup winning defender who simply wanted to defend due to his age.

A clash of personalities meant Arbeloa got frozen out of the squad. Not his (or Slav's) fault and the only the manager can win.

He came on against someone at home, can't remember who, looked like the geezer had never played football before

Horrendous signing, whoever recommended him should be punched.

Typical West Ham retirement home signing, big name footballer, too old, legs gone.

Given the expectation and money, a strong contender for worst signing EVER.

The only thing he done of note was show up in the Carpenters after a game.

A year too late
£3,380,000 we paid him for the privilege of his company
Football is an utterly ridiculous game sometimes

If there is a non-playing squad role going now that he has retired I am willing to make myself immediately available.
As a gesture of goodwill I will take £60,000 a week only.

Re: Alvaro Arbeloa: Former Liverpool and West Ham defender retires
With us being as desperate as we were for a proper RB last season, Arbeloa had to have been properly shit (for whatever reason) not to have go picked.

He should fuck off into retirement quietly.

Fuck knows why he is retiring when clubs like us will give him 65k a week to do fuck all.
