Oh, dear..! Could we be made homeless if the E20 LLP fails..?
Or would responsibility just slide onto the LLDC..?

Yeah, yeah, yeah, but what happens if the owners can't pay the electricity bill and we run out of floodlights for a relegation battle evening game?

Forfeit 3 points for not fulfilling our fixture, do not pass go and go down on goal difference?

The huge gaps around the pitch will always be a problem.

It does seem that every step that has been taken has been to preserve the structure and not it's usefulness. Form over function.

If it's a piece of "art", then the Arts Council should be fully funding it. If it's a listed building (in all but name) then English Heritage should be funding it.

Up the sides to thirteen if it helps

Cheapest way to get the stands closer to the pitch is to change the rules of football so it can be played on a big oval...

So how do you see that happening? Bear in mind the upper tier abuts the exoskeleton and so it would be difficult if not impossible to change without bringing down everything.

You're not quite getting it. I'm not talking about 'reworking' the upper tier. I'm saying that 50% of the stadium would have to be torn down in order to relocate the pitch closer to the remaining stands and replacing the demolished half with new structures. That's the only way ALL seats would be far closer to the pitch. Not just a few thousand under your plan.

In the real world, I suspect the politics (of envy, mostly) in this matter will force the government to push the (tax-payer funded) boat out as far as it can to avoid West Ham getting their hands on the stadium - even if it means robbing the NHS (but not foreign aid) of funds to cover the costs.

Coe & Co scuppered by far the most sensible option and ever since then the government has been forced to throw money at the thing - but none, probably from Coe, Jowell & Livingstone.

It's been nothing but good money after bad, from the tax-payers viewpoint, but, in the corridors of power, nothing is worse than a (senior) civil servant or politician losing face by admitting an error, so the thing will continue to haemorrhage (tax-payer's) cash for - at least - probably, another two terms of government.

Who fucking votes for these shitbags?

Gold & Sullivan are going to end up taking the OS off the hands of the committee responsible for all the debts aren't they?

You see this is just another classic lesson in Labour politics. They wanted an Olympics and an Olympic athletics stadium and didn't care what it cost. They shunned every piece of sane advice and wasted huge sums of tax payer's money.

Unfortunately that is how and why socialism doesn't ever work.

I think upper tier reworks are impossible AOI. You'd have to pull everything down and start again, which just isnt feasible. The best you can hope for is what they did to the Maracana and Minerao, which were both oval and retrofitted for the world cup

Looking at those images, the maracana has the better sides and the minerao the better ends.

They wouldn't have to invest. Because they would have sold up within minutes of owning the stadium. This was the plan from day one.

Funny how a low valuation has come out around the same time.... The car park is worth more!
Fix the lower tier a bit more forward and extend the bottom of the upper tier to fill SOME gappy bits? (Once we own it that is..)

Re: Oh, dear..! Could we be made homeless if the E20 LLP fails..?
Gav - the trouble with simply digging down and extending the lower tiers is that whilst it's cheap, it doesn't in any way change the overall shape and scope of the stadium. All it does is bring a few thousand closer to the pitch. Everyone else is still in the same position as they are now - fucking miles away from the pitch. And that is all that matters.

That's why I'm saying it would take at least £200 mill to do it properly, because to make it a football stadium you'd have to knock down one side and one end, re-position the pitch closer to the remaining stands and build a new side and new end. I can't see any other way of doing it.

Re: Oh, dear..! Could we be made homeless if the E20 LLP fails..?
redoing the lower tier isnt a particularly big job. you just have prefabricated rafters and flooring brought in and fitted into place. digging down 3 metres again isnt particularly problematic though there may be a need for underpinning at points. The lower tier is a totally separate structure to the upper tier (which the roof hangs off) so youre relatively free to do what you want without risking a collapse. They'd probably be a season through which work will get done but you can live with that.

Re: Oh, dear..! Could we be made homeless if the E20 LLP fails..?
If by some fluke the LS fell into the laps of the spivs, then the first thing they'd do is clinch a naming rights deal tens of millions.

But if it did become ours then the spivs would be under enormous pressure from the fans to make a massive investment into converting the pit into a football stadium. And it would be a massive investment; probably something north of £200 MILL I'd say. And I can't see the tight fuckers committing to that.

Re: Oh, dear..! Could we be made homeless if the E20 LLP fails..?
oh and the potential capacity will go up to about 78,000.

Gavros 6:12 Thu Jul 13
Re: Oh, dear..! Could we be made homeless if the E20 LLP fails..?
if the lower tier is rebuilt, it can be brought forward another 10 metres or so, so the widest gap will be 10 metres at half way and right on top of it at the corners.

The area behind can be covered by cast concrete making for a fucking humongous PAARTAY DECK.
