Re: Charity Sheild
So normally the league champions and FA Cup winners get a fee and the football league clubs get a cut?

Re: Charity Sheild
As per below.

Re: Charity Sheild
Was reading that Chelsea and Arsenal gave up their 'club match fee' and that the Football League said that their clubs would give up 'their share' of the proceeds to all go to the Grenfell fund.
Appears previously that the donation to charity certainly wasn't the full proceeds .... not sure if it ever was or whether the Charity Act that required something like that came in and ruled out the previous Charity Shield name.

Re: Charity Sheild
Sorry but that's absolute bollocks, the reason why it changed it's name was because the money raised from the match is distributed amongst community based projects down to the grass roots, it was called the charity shield beforehand because each season a different charity benefited. Don't believe every single thing you read on wikipedia.

"they weren't giving enough money to charity to use the previous title legally"

Well i truly hope this is just a PC type technicality as it were, because fuck me the amount of money in football these days and they cant give the gate takings in full to charity is well fucked up.

Modern day football, dogs etc

Re: Charity Sheild
It was changed to the Community Shield as they weren't giving enough money to charity to use the previous title legally.
They were making a big play of supporting the Grenfell victims but not sure if that meant that was anything more than a nominal donation.

Always happy to see Chelsea lose.
I understand Courtois' penalty has just landed.
