Why no Colditz style barricades around Westfield for the Athletics?
Why can the Athletics crowd access the stadium via Westfield?

Surely this makes a complete bollocks of any Health and Safety claims re potential over crowding and the club should be pressing for equal rights for their supporters.

Perhaps Westfield are happy that the absence of completely sober football fans who have been drinking for three hours makes it unlikely the South Yorkshire police will turn up and kill 97 people for no reason at all.

On match days the barriers at Westfield (the cow) are open until about 1pm. Closed thereafter.

The authentic, that I've been to twice now, the gates are open during most of the day until late in the evening when they get closed. Those leaving the athletics at the end have to make the same walk as most fans do after our games.

If you're smart like many, you know how to avoid them anyway both pre and post game.

So get smarter folks. HTH

Mate of mine posted a pic of him and family at the athletics on the weekend and he was DRINKING A BEER 🍻 in his seat.
Football fans are treated like shit because some have acted that way. Simples

You're right Alex; it is prejudice and makes a nonsense of the official reasons that they have given in the past.

Doesn't take a genius to work out why.

The Westfield owners are massive football people too.

I imagine the Westfield owners are worried the football fans might make things difficult for the resident shopping mall pickpockets and wannabe gangstas whereas the Athletics mob are much easier pickings

Sorry Bruuuno not Bungo.

Bungo - how many episodes of mass drunken violence were there around Westfield during the last season?

They have more trouble with the local yoots than they do with the football supporters that eat and drink in Westfield as the majority of those are families as well.

I walked through Westfield before the Juventus match amongst a big horde of football fans. I think the average punter in Westfield would have been quite uncomfortable being that close to lots of fat, bald, angry looking men who wouldn't normally be in Westfield.

The athletics crowd will be indistinguishable from most Westfield customers.

I suspect that is the main difference.

I always walk through Westfield on match days.

Does anyone really give a shit about the barricades on matchdays anyway? It just means if you want to eat/drink something in Westfield after the game you have to walk about five minutes further round to the doors near SI station and enter from there. (or go the opposite way round if you are eating/drinking prior to the game.)

Re: Why no Colditz style barricades around Westfield for the Athletics?
Maybe because athletics crowds aren't prone to episodes of mass drunken violence?

Re: Why no Colditz style barricades around Westfield for the Athletics?
Because athletics fans all turn up and eat quietly in the shopping centre and then form an orderly queue to enter the stadium. Pretty much exactly the same way that we do for home matches, only with the heavy handed police and stewards treating us like shit and having to negotiate a fucking great big one way barricade system. Its great to be a football fan isn't it

Those nasty WH fans or nice pleasant athletics supporters?

I'm glad the new stadium has moved us into a new era of no home games for season starts and Boxing days for ever more.

Re: Why no Colditz style barricades around Westfield for the Athletics?
Because athletics fans are all to a person 100% lovely, considerate, obedient non troublemaking and quiet teetotallers.

Whereas football fans are all to a person 100% the opposite.

That's the thinking anyway, I'm sure

:)

Re: Why no Colditz style barricades around Westfield for the Athletics?
A complete guess, but I'd imagine that the athletics crowd all arrive at different times rather than at roughly the same time like we do.

Plus think about it - it's a much different crowd who won't be pissed-up. Much more palatable for Westfield.
