Refs performance summed up pretty well for Sat
http://www.teamtalk.com/news/ref-review-pogba-escapes-red-arnautovic-had-to-go-tadic-a-tad-lucky

Dusan Tadic yellow card v West Ham

Tadic nearly cut Javier Hernandez in two with a wild, wild lunge by the dugouts in the first half at St Mary’s. He looked to be out of control and on reflection the Serb was a lucky boy only to see yellow.

Verdict: Incorrect decision

Arnautovic red card v Southampton

Hot on the heels of Jono Shelvey’s brainless dismissal on Tyneside last week, Marko Arnautovic matches him in the ‘ridiculous red’ stakes with this shocker against Southampton.

He closed down poor Jack Stephens, who cleared his lines easily enough at St Mary’s but was then cleaned out by the Austrian with an elbow to the throat.

Lee Mason immediately gave him his marching orders and rightly so for an absolute shocker that was more MMA than FA Premier League.

Verdict: Correct decision

Southampton’s second penalty v West Ham

Southampton were awarded two spot kicks at St Mary’s and while the first was pretty clear cut after a ludicrous tug by Jose Fonte in his own box on Steven Davis, the second was not.

Pablo Zabaleta was adjudged to have nudged Maya Yoshida in the area deep into injury-time after he went up for a James Ward-Prowse cross but there was very little in it.

Lee Mason immediately pointed to the spot and Charlie Austin duly converted but it looked a very soft penalty to eventually help get Southampton over the line.

Our ref will probably get away with it after that clowns performance last night has taken any heat off of him.

Now that was a fucking awful performance by the man in black.

I watched the MOTD highlights last night and the bastards didn't even show the Tadic challenge. Made the highlights biased toward the ref to say the least.

Hackett with Gale......

god that was a painful day.

Re: Refs performance summed up pretty well for Sat
Couldn't Pablo Zabaleta JUST get in a position to head the ball away by looking at the ball and not the player.

Such bad brain dead defending hopefully the Ref told him that to shut him up.

Re: Refs performance summed up pretty well for Sat
My late brother was a ref. He always used to say about penalty decisions "would I have blown for a foul if that happened in the centre circle"? There is no way Zab would have been penalised if that were the case, hence, not a penalty.

Agree mate, I fucking despise that utter cunt Hackett

Not quite as much as Galey of course but I run him a close second - loved it when he refused to engage eye contact or shake his hand on tv interview recently

Was there at Villa when the self serving prick did his worse - vile individual and fuck knows why he has a platform

When are all these dodgy decisions going to go for us?

They say they even themselves out in time, and I've been going for 50 years and the proceess of evening out has not started yet.

Re: Refs performance summed up pretty well for Sat
Stephens had his arm at his side and as the ball came towards him he bends his arm to block it.
Just an instinctive move as he reacts to the fact that it is going past him and an absolute stonewall penalty.

Is it too paranoid to think it would have been given against us?

Re: Refs performance summed up pretty well for Sat
For me, the referee set the tone of the game by allowing Tadic away with a yellow card for his disgraceful foul on Hernandez (It was a nailed-on red if ever there was one)

That was followed up by several nasty incidents involving Southampton players (which seem to have gone unmentioned) including one particularly nasty elbow in the face of Arni, which is probably what provoked his ridiculous assault that he was rightly sent off for

Noble would have been sent off had the game not have already been stopped. Even then it was such a bad foul it warranted a red

Their 1st penalty was pretty clear cut & a stupid giveaway by Fonte who had absolutely no need to foul the man

We should have had a penalty for blatent handball. It is almost inconceivable that the referee didn't see it

I'm not at all convinced that their 2nd penalty was a foul by Zabaleta. It looked like he just stood his ground, which he is perfectly entitled to do, while the Southampton man crashed into him 50/50. A very soft penalty which the referee appeared to be looking to give

Re: Refs performance summed up pretty well for Sat
Ours was a clear pen he moved his hand to the ball and he handled it. Was pretty clear. Their elbow on Arni should of been a red but the ref didn't even stop play for the head injury?? Nobles was a shocker but the game should of been stopped for the elbow. Their was as well the tackle on Hernandez which should of been red! Their second pen I don't think in the 27 years of playing and watching Football I have ever seen a similar pen given at that time of the game. The ref had to be bent because there is no way you could give all them decisions to one team and nothing to the other. When was the last time we got 2 pens and a player sent off against us probably never

Mad Dog 3:59 Mon Aug 21
Re: Refs performance summed up pretty well for Sat
Graeme poll in the mail said all 4 should have been red, we should have had a penalty and that Lee mason should be relegated to championship for giving so much up

Dermot Gallagher on sky says noble and arnoutovic red, 2 bookings for saints and no pen for us. Praising mason. Cunt

What about the handball shout that we had. It looked a pen to me in real time.

Re: Refs performance summed up pretty well for Sat
I actually can't remember the last time we won a game due to receiving some lovely gifts from a ref.

Sort of sad with football now, that Shelvey's tread (well it wasn't a stamp was it) is seen as being a hell of a lot worse than the tackle on Hernandez that cut him in half.

I mean it's bloody pathetic what Voldemort done, but only one of those challengers will ever cause injury.

1964 i get what you are saying but we have to move on far too often and more so than most other clubs in the PL.

The 'evens itself out over a season' saying has us down for 3 seasons of fuck all bad luck!

Re: Refs performance summed up pretty well for Sat
All irrelevent. It's history, we lost fairly or otherwise. Nothing will change, move on.

I think if yoi go and score 4 goals the refs performance becomes much less relevant. Play the ref out of the game.

Noble getting banned for three games might do us a favour.

Sven Roeder 2:58 Mon Aug 21
Re: Refs performance summed up pretty well for Sat
Zabaletta was trying to cover for the fact that Fonte was ball watching and let Yoshida in behind him.
Unless he was a foot taller it was all he could do to put him off and wasn't subtle enough.
As said if that much of a nudge is a pen when a ball comes into the box I expect Andy Carroll to earn about 9 each week.

About time he got bad aids.
