Carl Jenkinson - Loaned to Birmingham City
Bit of a fall from grace and at 25, you'd think he'd have wanted a permanent move away from Arsenal.

Personally, I liked him while he was with us, but obviously hasn't pushed on since his first loan/regaining fitness from his injury.

Funny you should say that, he comes from an athletics bacvkground and crossed to football
Pretty clear to see why and no shock at the outcome

Johnson or Jenkinson in their prime?

Hmmm tough one...

NOT

Re: Carl Jenkinson - Loaned to Birmingham City
His decline was immediate once he signed his new contract
Had a good season with us, knew we wanted to sign him but signed a new deal with the Arse then came back to us on loan, at a vastly higher cost breathing merrily upon his new deal

Proceded entirely differently, was not fit enough, then copped an injury - languishing since upon that contract

Now fair play for getting himself that far as Russ says, but bollox to the bloke, he will not attain that he should have but I suspect he does not give a shit

Sorry I see little comparison with Johnson here. Apart from they are both right backs

I wish my fall from grace was playing for Birmingham. You still need to be shit hot to play at that level.

A lot of players show potential and then eventually find their level. Jenkinson will still be a very wealthy man at the end of his career and can say he has played at the highest level.

Good luck to him.

Re: Carl Jenkinson - Loaned to Birmingham City
I liked him and until his injury wouldn't have minded him as a permanent squad member. It's quite rightly pointed out he had an abysmal game against Bournemouth (few other shaky games as well) - but I seem to remember that others who aren't written off like Creswell also had a bad spell around that time.

Alex V - What age did Johnson career lose it's way, and when did he recover from it?

I disagree. His argument is nonsense. The two players have had broadly similar experiences at broadly similar points of their careers. We know Johnson recovered - will Jenkinson?

Re: Carl Jenkinson - Loaned to Birmingham City
Yes I'm sure. I obviously wasn't walking about a youth loan to Millwall. You introduced that comparison.

But of course that's the game isn't it? Invent some rubbish that I didn't say in order to attack it. It's pointless. My point was a broad comparison between two England right-backs who had problems in their early careers - there's nothing wrong with doing that and it's usually an aid to a discussion. Unless you have pedantic bores who just want to score points by twisting it.

Alex, we all know Trundle is a bellend who does nothing more than sit in the background waiting to snipe, but he has you on toast here, just hold your hands up and move on.

"Glen Johnson lost his way at a similar time in his career"

You sure, V?
