Good win for us, could have gone either way this morning.
More importantly, Adieu Blowers! It has been a pleasure.

I can't believe you get depressed about England winning!

Do you also get depressed when West Ham win?

Cluck, cluck, blah, blah...

Easy win, batting not up to par though

Depressingly, it looks as though England may win this. Let's hope that Hope can smack the ball about, and England collapse when batting.

It's what Cricket needs.

England in charge and should finish it today.
The Windies have the best of the overhead conditions today but there is still enough in the pitch and no one seems able to stay with S Hope.

Feel a bit sorry for westley

I thought he looked alright in his first couple of innings but, as boycott pointed out on TMS yesterday, if your first class average is in the 30s you do t stand much chance at test level and his stance and action are too square to play against quicker, cleverer bowlers.

I don't think it's ever a players fault if they are picked but just aren't good enough.

I do think we've rattled through far too many batsmen and sort of dismissed players that could have worked out ok. It's too late for him now sadly, but as an example, carberry was ditched after the last ashes and yet did ok - certainly no worse than other players who are well loved by the media.

In terms of the 3 and 5 spots, can hales not play 3? I get why the selectors gave up on him opening but Swann has repeatedly put forward decent arguments saying that he has all he shots and technique in his armoury to perform in test cricket but you need to give him the chance to change his mentality to suit and that needs an extended run. I also think that you need to accept he fact that you aren't necessarily going to have the perfect XI and here just might not be a perfect partner for cook right now

Quick question as well - I don't know if it's just me but i don't feel like you really see much in the way of openers getting huge scores any more except for random exceptions - teams quite regularly seem to be 3 or 4 down by the time hey reach 3 figures. Does anyone know what the average score by batting position for all tests is over the last 12-18 months?

Not much play likely til well into the afternoon if at all I would have thought.
Saw a few MCC members yesterday morning coming down the Jubilee Line (one in LEMON trousers) early doors to bag a seat but none today.

Just watched the highlights, swing bowling when it goes both ways (only happened for me a handful of times for me in ten years playing) is a beautiful thing to watch.

Hope Malan and Stokes can dig in tomorrow

Didn't see England back but saw some of the highlights of the Windies innings. Once the cloud came in and the lights went on the ball was doing ALL SORTS hooping around late like a hoopy thing.
I'd like to see anyone bat against late swing in those conditions.
I suspect this Test will be decided by who gets to bat under the clearest skies.

Not sure why today's play would mean Australia would 'smash' England. Have just finished a drawn series with Bangladesh and still don't have a definite number 3 , 6 or 7 batsman.
Steve Smith ended up having to bat 3 in the second Test on a pitch where Aust picked one (ONE) fast bowler for the first time in living memory.
Unfortunately the Bangladeshis spent so long bragging about how they could sledge now they forgot to try to win the second Test and choked on the brink of a historic series win.

Anyway, the Windies of 84 were an extraordinary sporting phenomenon. That side would surely smash anyone in the world today.

IT'LL BE GOOD FOR CRICKET, TED.

Even though we didn't beat them for about 50 years once, you need to start cheering for the Windies, because they was great once, or something like that.
