The security checks are now taking place on the bridges.......
.......rather than at the turnstiles, much like they do for other events.

Following feedback from fans, the new search operation - which will be in place for Monday’s opening home Premier League game of the season against Huddersfield Town - will see search checkpoints stationed directly adjacent to the bridges leading on to the stadium island.

The process, used throughout London Stadium’s summer of concerts and world athletics, has proved particularly successful in helping the flow of spectators to the stadium, and both West Ham United and LS185 are working together to ensure that the safety and security of our supporters is of paramount importance.

In order to allow easy access and cause minimal delays, it is recommended that supporters arrive at least one hour prior to kick-off and avoid bringing any bags to matches unless absolutely necessary. Large suitcases or luggage are not permitted in the stadium.

All bags will be searched and supporters may also be asked to remove jackets or coats in preparation for search. All approved bags are also subject to additional inspections within the Stadium. There will be an access lane at each checkpoint for supporters with accessibility needs.

These are not ticket check points, allowing supporters without tickets to gain access to the podium and visit the Stadium Store and Ticket Offices.

To further reduce queuing times at the search checkpoints, it is recommended that supporters access the stadium island via the bridges in closest proximity to their respective turnstile entrance. See our stadium map for an illustration of the following information:

Turnstile Entrance Closest Bridge
A, B, C 3
D 4
E, F, G 5
E, F, G, H, J 1
A, J, K 2
Please be assured that London Stadium’s search policy is entirely for the safety and security of every supporter attending West Ham United matches.

Additionally at London Stadium this season, each entrance section on the podium will have one late turnstile open after kick-off. Any supporters who arrive late for the match are advised to head to the relevant entrance for their seat, where they will be directed to the late-opening turnstile.

I agree it isn't necessary but it can be a lot more convenient.

You're bang on about the fan segregation beforehand and afterwards though

I usually seem to encounter this when going on holiday in Cornwall by mistake.

I think you'd be really unlucky to ever have to take your coat off - open it up for them, that'll do.

This'll make the first couple of games really slow while people realise they need to not turn up at five to three moaning, but then it'll be OK.

Put it this way, the gazebos for the bag checks at the athletics did a great job of keeping the heavy rain off everyone on the wednesday night. You do realise these are proper sturdy ones which are essentially tunnels, rather than the 10 quid from argos variety you might put up in the garden, right?

If I wanted to pick something to piss and moan about regarding the new stadium, it wouldn't be about *maybe* having to take my coat off for 30 seconds while standing under adequate rain protection if the security bloke was being extra fastidious. Yeah it's a hassle but if it stops some random cunt going in with a knife one day and stabbing people, then it's completely worth it.

You dont need to go onto the stadium island for any of those things.

The main thing that would stop it would be intermingling of fans on the island. If you had away fans only accessing via the stairs on the south side of the stadium and put a barrier up before the store, you solve that problem too.

They actually stretch to putting sides on these gazebos then Scorch? Fuck me, wonders will never cease.

Re: The security checks are now taking place on the bridges.......
Gavros, they won't do that as people will need access to the Copper Box Arena or the Aquatics Centre and may need to come around the stadium to get there.

And what about our customary 1/4 TO 3 jimmy riddle round near pudding mill lane?
They ain't thought this through at all.

Well given they offer shelter, they definitely are famed for keeping out rain. Yes it's slightly inconvenient to have to take your coat off for a minute or two- if they even make you in practice- but it's hardly too much to handle even if it is cold, and I'd suggest a security check is better than the alternative of some cunt smuggling some sort of weapon in.

Yes it sucks that it has to happen, but it's a sad sign of the way of the world these days.

How about this then?

'We recommend that in order to not have to hang around the stadium or the shop for ages, supporters should turn up en masse about 5 mins before kick-off as we will easily be able to process 50 or 60 thousand people through the security checkpoints in 5 mins or so'.

Can't understand why they didn't put that in their statement?

"I wonder how many other clubs operate like this? Fucking none is how many."

Man Utd have just recently introduced new security measures, and they suggest people attending games to arrive an hour before kick off too. I'm guessing stadiums in the major cities have all beefed up their security (cheers Blair), and shit holes like Stoke don't have to.

Who the fuck wants to be hanging around in the stadium for at least an hour before kick off? More money in their pockets though, which I'm sure is the whole point.

Welcome to the next level.

That's alright then Scorch. Gazebos are famed for keeping out the cold and rain.

It's not a big problem- the checkpoints will be under gazebos, like with the athletics, I'm sure. A bigger problem will be the dickheads who refuse to comply with security, kick up a fuss and cause everyone else massive delays to get through just because they don't want to play ball.

Which I've just seen WON'T be a problem. That'll teach me not to read the whole article.

Re: The security checks are now taking place on the bridges.......
'it is recommended that supporters arrive at least one hour prior to kick-off'

Fucking hell.

Although in practice no-one will do this, everyone will rock up at ten to kick off and we'll all be queueing until half an hour of the game has gone to get in.

It's also really irritating if you're meeting people who come from a different direction- especially if you have to meet up to give them a ticket.

Got to be an improvement but I can imagine some responses if asked to remove coats when pissing down with rain or freezing cold.
