West Ham missed out on former Chelsea star Andre Schurrle amid Deadline Day transfer chaos

German international was keen to return to Premier League after two years away and work under Hammers boss Slaven Bilic

Exclusive By Warren Haughton

WEST HAM missed out on a deadline day deal for former Chelsea star Andre Schurrle.

Sources in Germany have told SunSport the attacker was keen on a return to the Premier League after two years in the Bundesliga with Wolfsburg and Borussia Dortmund.

A loan deal with an obligation to buy the German international for £26million was proposed to the Hammers, 24 hours before deadline day.

German sources claim the Hammers took their eye off the ball on the final day of the window.

The confusion surrounding a proposed move for Sporting Lisbon midfielder William Carvalho ensued while Schurrle was left in limbo.

Club co-chairman David Sullivan said: “It’s no secret that we made a club record bid for William Carvalho, but unfortunately that offer was rejected.”

The 2014 World Cup winner has failed to make an impact since moving to Dortmund last summer for £18m.

Schurrle, 26, made just eight appearances last season under Thomas Tuchel and is close to a return to action after recovering from thigh injury suffered in a German cup game last month.

Schurrle moved to Chelsea from Bayer Leverkusen in 2013 for £18m and established himself as a fans favourite, before Blues boss Jose Mourinho sold him to Wolfsburg.

Despite his injury absence, Schurrle looks surplus to reqirements at the Westfalenstadion and Bilic could look to revive the deal in January.

The thing is, they signed him for 18 mil and after a shit season there, they then want to offload him for 26?

I know it's not my money, but it's ridiculous.

The club has become a bit of a circus of late and the media are going to lap up every little rumour going.

True or not, it's irrelevant. We could have been offered Messi for 10 quid and a bag of quavers but the fact is we're left with what we're left with. We just have to hope for as few injuries as possible.

My fear is that the Jan window won't be much better as we will be amidst a relegation battle with a damaged reputation off the back of the Carvalho saga and Bilic still at the helm.

When sky went to our training ground on transfer deadline day at 9:30pm all the lights were off and the carp ark was empty. Throw in to the mix our chairman was in Spain I'd love to know what chaos was apparently ensuing???

Additionally we apparently made a club record bid that was rejected??? Surely we paid more than £23m for Arnie so that's a lie. Additionally little Dave said SL came back at the Death to accept our bid so again another lie, thus fella cannot keep up with his own bullshit.
