The Art of the Cross
No point having the big lump AC in the side if we can't cross the ball! Do they not practise, at least to beat the first man???
Payet could do it and he fed Antonio constantly, hency his 8 headed goals but we literaly have nobody thats can cross it well enough often enough.
Nobles corners and free kicks are floated rubbish, Creswell hits one decent cross in 10 and Arnie pisses about with it too much when he have the chance to cross.
Another reason why Sakho should have come on today when Antonio for injured & on the offchance a decent cross does come in he aint bad with his nut anyway.

Perhaps should also say, as there is now a thread on this, Cresswell is also a good player, I just feel that end of last season and now he is not at his best and perhaps the message that he is not necesary 1st choice would get him working harder.

Getting back to this thread, I also think Antonio can make a good cross and with both feet. Another part of this problem is the players in the box to receive the cross.

He is obviously a decent player and that goal was one of the best I have seen from a West ham player, but he did make at least 5 attempts at crossing and all were underwhelming. He can put a ball in but from what I saw even against an inferior Bolton team they were very average, although everything else he was doing looked pretty good.

Davie Cooper was also a great winger.

John Barnes is one of the best footballers I've ever seen. Don't give a fuck what some say ref his England career, the fella was a genius.

Okay Hairy I did not see the Bolton game, just his goal, exceptional and adding that to yesterday I thought he should be on before Cresswell, perhaps not the best evidence for my conclusion, but generally I like him going forward more than Cresswell.

Masuako was truly woeful v Bolton, nothing not even one cross he made was of any quality.

What people always forget is that the game changes. Defenders learn how to counter certain skills. I guess players with exceptional skills who are genuinely better than the rest are hard to find and rare.
That said . I'm pretty sure that passing a ball well should be a learnable skill that the everage premier league play could learn.

Masauko crosses the ball well
I think he should be ahead of Cresswell at the moment
I thought it was odd that Bilic brought Masauko on as a forward on the left, but it worked well.

I was thinking defending on crosses has improved not in general.

Oh and wing play is now a thing of the past... used to be great watching out and out wingers... people that dribble past an opposition full back and get in a pin point cross... agree with Norm' Johnny Barnes in his hey day was quite a magnificent sight... his name sake Peter Barnes was not too bad in the mid 70's as well....

I absolutely agree though maybe Defending has got better and tighter than before.

Really?? I think the standard of defending is absolutely shocking... and that's not just us... there seems to be a push to have technical defenders... people that are comfortable on the ball rather than players who can actually do a job on a opposition player... yes I know the rules have changed to be in the favour of a attacker but some of the time and room and basically an easy ride they get nowadays is beyond belief...

I absolutely agree though maybe Defending has got better and tighter than before. West ham have a big problem crossing balls in to attacking players.

Sadly our defending is very poor too.

John Barnes?
Wooden waste of time, the only time he worked as a passing midfielder was if the ball hit him on the back of the head.

The best wingers I've witnessed in my lifetime as a duo were John Barnes and Niger Callaghan at WATFORD.
Dicksie will agree with me.
They were lethal..and always done for us back then.
