Will ITV or the BBC ever shelve Coronation St / Eastenders?
Depressing dross.

Caught 5 minutes of Coronation Street whilst waiting for a takeaway the other night. Enough to make you want to do yourself in and it's never been any different.

Yes.

Just after I've become demented enough to enjoy them.

(Next week, then, probably)

If you value your mental health, never, ever watch Eastenders; which is the most depressing and fraudulent of programmes. The BBC should be ashamed.
I used to be subjected to it on account of my ex being hooked. Fortunately I've never seen it these past seven years.

At least Corrie has some humour.

The way things are going technology laptops Ipads Mobile phones and whatever is to come in the future will probably make Television a thing of the past. Kids do not watch TV the way us middle aged people used to they flick through it and have two or three programmes they love the rest does not matter.

I'm sure if the BBC did shelve Eastenders, the usual bunch of 'characters' would be out in force on here saying it was either a right-wing or a left-wing conspiracy, depending on what suited their agenda that particular day.

Firstly R.I.P Liz Dawn.

I think that it is a very real possibility that the big soaps might one day get the axe simply because keeping up with such ridiculous story lines will become impossible, although it would be far easier to carry on with more simple story lines that will fill such a prominent spot and get decent ratings, they will always get a solid 7 million viewers whatever happens.

El Scorchio;

"Really don;t see the point of watching something where the whole point is drama and suspense when you already know what's going to happen"

A bit like West Ham then.

As said there is so much excellent tv around you wonder why people would watch these things.
It's mainly cos they are a bit dim

I agree that EastEnders is actually insulting to people from the East End.
Does anyone have a degree or a decent job? Or any interests at all apart from going to the pub and shouting at people?
Most ludicrously no one says CUNT. Or CUNT HIM IN THE BASTARD.

Stoat: Must admit when it was announced he died I said to a colleague that another Corrie related actor has gone. Knew he was partner of Pat Phoenix and assumed he may have had a role in the show late 70s/early 80s - wasn't expecting 1960 !

Seemed to like a soap - as well as Corrie, he was briefly in Eastenders, Emmerdale, Family Affairs, and even Albion Market! Odd that for a Scouse Git he didn't appear in Brookside !!

No, never. Eastenders and Corrie are to the BBC and ITV what Andy Carroll is to Bilic. Just fucking throw them on as much as you can even though it's not actually that good.

Years ago i worked for the bbc when Eastenders first started.
I was allocated to go to Elstree simply because I was the only bod that came from the Eastend I worked on the show for two years but have never watched an episode working on it was bad enough.
