I like LZ, but...
A) They nicked nearly all of their best songs
B) Their lyrics are fucking shit.

Re: Led Zeppelin
BIG LOG indeed.

Years ago, my MATE who was a plumber, fitted a new toilet in Robert Plant's house. When my MATE started to take the old toilet away, Plant stopped him and said he was going to keep it.
Tight bastard.

Re: Led Zeppelin
Plant once had a song called "Big Log", which is apt, as whenever he sang it sounded like he was passing one.
Pity Terry Reid didn't get the gig.

I can never forgive Free for All Right Now which I have probably played 500+ times in many cover bands down the years.

It's on the 'I refuse to play that anymore' list now along with Paranoid, Summer of '69, Born To Be Wild, Fool For Your Loving and a few others.

Still don't mind a quick romp through Rock and Roll though.

Excellent post.

As for Heartbreaker, you're right, by no means Free's best album. Andy Fraser had gone and Koss was in a very bad place during the recording of that album.

Re: Led Zeppelin
Great drummer
Great POLYMATH on bass/keys
Good riff writer / mostly awful soloist on guitar.
Godawful "singer" (at the time). He's actually got much better with age.

Legendary, perhaps, for mostly dubious reasons. Greatest? Not in a billion years. I listened to FREE's Heartbreaker this week, which isn't even their best album. Yet that alone is better than Leaden Zeppelin's whole career. Apples and oranges, though.

Saw them at their last gig at Knebworth, I was 16, far too young to appreciate the enormity of the event, left it’s mark though....

I was lucky enough to go to one of the Earls Court concerts in 1975.
That was the first time I'd seen a laser following one of Bonham's drum sticks during a ten minute drum solo.
I've seen most of the top bands but nobody has come close to them.

Re: Led Zeppelin
I couldn't give a shit if they nicked/copied bits from other artists, they were still one the best live bands ever. I love watching Bonham drum. page's double album with the black crowes 'live from the greek' where they do zeppelin covers is very good

Just to be clear I mean Yes they were the greatest rock band ever, not that Yes were a better rock band, though they were also very good.

"Probably the best covers band ever."

You're obviously fishing but I know some tracks were old blues numbers. When The Levee Breaks is a classic example of that where I have an old blues version from god knows when by Kansas Joe & Memphis Minnie...
