Masuaku or Arnautovic Vs Burnley?
Masuaku has put in good attacking performances and assists, all action, better defensively than Arnautovic. Arnautovic's final ball has been shit very often.

Should Masuaku start ahead of Arnautovic in the next match (presuming we are going to be playing a winger in a 4 4 2)?

Definitely both, as it's fairly clear that Ayew shouldn't be anywhere near a starting spot.

Re: Masuaku or Arnautovic Vs Burnley?
We've sold ourselves down the river with Arnie, it seems... paid way over top whack for a player we didn't really need (and word on the street is he is 'missing' following a training ground bust up with Bilic, as yet unconfirmed...).

Arfa does the same job, has more pace, provides better cover out of possession for Cressy, and can provide accurate service into the box on the run. It's a no brainer really.

Doubts about Arnie from his last game, when he had numerous opportunities to deliver a killer pass in behind a turning defence (just like the one Arfa DID deliver on Saturday), and either muffed it up or (most times) tried to run through himself and produce a miracle. It would seem that he doesn't "see" the pass, or worse, doesn't want to play it..? I also noted that all the time Chica was alongside him, he was having to 'talk' Arnie through the play i.e. 'go up, go back, come inside, pressure on, etc'...

Lack of confidence, lack of basic understanding of what is required... or lack of direction from the gaffer..? Bit of all three, maybe?

In my view, up against Arfa in current form, he wouldn't make the starting eleven, for sure.

And in case you haven't heard me bore on it already: Chica and Sakho; natural together up front, would cause chaos if given their heads.

Too many false dawns with AC... keep him fit, use him as an impact sub later in games, then SELL HIM while both his legs are working.

If playing 4-4-2 why not play them both.

Anyone ready to entertain the notion that Masuaku is not, in fact, a full back?

Chim

Look at how much money we spunked on Ayew. I don't care how much we paid for a player, I want an on form player.

But maybe Artur is better off the bench.

Re: Masuaku or Arnautovic Vs Burnley?
Arnautovic is the better quality player by far in the position and has had only 2 or 3 appearances and not one full 90 mins IIRC?

Arfur? He has me scratching my old bonce. IMO not good enough defensively ( especially in the air) as a defender in a back four but possibly as a wing back where he has one of the 3 CBs to cover. He has a good burst of pace and close control and that makes him useful in advanced positions but he has not, as far as I know, ever been an out and out wide midfielder? So what is he? Same question for Ayew. So I think he remains as an impact sub for me in that same wide left midfield role even though it is not what we bought him for.

Arnautovic needs a good coach and one he really respects to get the best from him. Needs to be more of a team player and its when has not got the ball but suspect he will do better in a team with Lanzini in it.

I would usually agree Chim so I take the point but his work rate is questionable and we need plenty of that at the moment. Definitely bring him in though when results have improved and then I'm sure everything will be fine. For me Masuaka deserves a turn because, at the moment, he looks to be our best option on the left going forward but I wouldn't have him at the back. Not convinced of his defensive qualities.

I think it would be pretty mad to buy a left-winger for a club record who was also Stoke's best player BY FAR and not play him at some point would be madness.

Playing your left-back as a left winger is something called Bilicitis and is usually fatal. By all means hook Arnie off and replace him with Arthur after an hour if it's not working out but FOR FUCK SAKE PLAY YOUR BEST PLAYERS IN THE POSITION THEY'VE ALWAYS PLAYED IN.

...and breath. Ah, that's much better.

Whoever is on form. Currently that's Arthur.

Whoever we start from those two, maybe masuaku deserves a start, we’re going to have to perform miles better than this week to get anythong from a very impressive and composed looking Burnley.

This the interesting debate.

Personally I don't think he gets ahead of Cresswell because he is weaker defensively and always likely to drop a bollock.

But he has been our most productive left sided midfielder this season so I would play him at Burnley with Cresswell at left back.

Leroys, I think your confusing your Hers with your Fers, or have you come up with a fiendish new formation?

There's not a great deal between Cresswell and Masuaku defensively, but Masuaku is much better going forward and can deliver a cross, which Cresswell has completely lost the ability to do.

Why wasn't Arnie playing yesterday? I didn't see any team news and only realised when I didn't see him in the line up at all.
