NRL Grand final
Melbourne V North Queensland.

Apparently there having trouble filling the stadium! Giving tickets away etc, how sad is that for the biggest game of the year in Sydney and arguably Australia.

The pre game entertainment is going to have a gay singer this year, singing his songs about gay marriage, the hottest topic in the country right now, only low alcohol beer available at extortionate prices and you cant buy more than 4, the cheerleaders are being toned down if they actually have them as some clubs have already banned them, they are demeaning and offensive to woman!!!………..Although no Sydney team feature, they wonder why no one wants to go.

Even if im offered a ticket, will watch on TV thanks, better atmosphere and don’t have to put up with the gay pride songs.

Having lived in Townsville for a couple of years, hope they win.

I'm not sure if they're being applied correctly then.

How on earth did Corey Oates ply in the semi one week after getting knocked out completely?

And he was awful the next game.

That was the worst decision I can remember (not because I've suffered a number of concussions either, by the way)

Re: NRL Grand final
As expected, Melbourne crushed them.

NQ did amazingly well to reach the final without Thurston though.

10 years ago, I flew from London to see the GF when Melbourne turned over scummy Manly, but were later stripped of it for salary cap abuse.

Have they changed their rules regarding contact with the head?
Is that a penalty or suspension?

Re: NRL Grand final
The NRL also has similar concussion rules

Re: NRL Grand final
I’m not going to disagree but there has been far too much unnecessary pandering to the PC Brigade on some issues, that’s by beef with it, the over the top stuff, like banning cheerleaders on the grounds its insulting to woman or people will be offended by it.

"the reaction has been totally over the top"

Including yours?

The NRL and Rugby League in general still have MASSIVE advancements to make in terms of player welfare and behaviour.

Just off the top of my head....

Think of all the players who've been done for drugs, or domestic violence, or sexual assault, or simulating sex with a dog on video, or pissing into their own mouths in the last couple of years, just as an example.

Think of how many players have been knocked out cold one week, and been back playing one of the physically toughest sports in the world in terms of collisions, the next. Think of how rugby, for example, now have mandatory stand-downs, HIA rules for everyone even suspected of suffering a concussion, and how the NFL have recently settled a $1 BILLION lawsuit by former players over concussions.

Think about how many young league players in Australia have committed suicide in the last 5-10 years.

How about the segment on the Footy Show (I think) where they took the piss out of the Polynesian surnames?

Yeah, Rugby League clearly has everything sorted and nothing at all to work on.

What a terrible sport and what a terrible place Townsville is.

Rugby league?
That's the one with the men wrestling in tiny silky shorts innit?
Macklemore sounds right up their street

Ronald, Had you down as more Mandy Moore

Re: NRL Grand final
Macklemore!!!

He’s a bender, and sings bender songs, for whatever reason the NRL is obsessed with appeasing all minority groups and woman, hence all the OTT measures and bending over backwards (excuse the pun!) to show how much they support the Gay, Lesbian and trans gender community, not that any of these groups have much interest in Rugby league….

It’s the current thing to do in Australia, seems just about any organisation not showing support gets labelled homophobic, backwards and discriminating.

HTH

Macklemore? Who the FUCK is that??

I was looking forward to seeing Michael Moore!

Re: NRL Grand final
The pre game entertainment is Macklemore who even I have heard of. I assume he is playing a few songs one of which is Same Love. Which was a number 1 single. Be odd not to play it.
Enjoy the game.

I see The Killers played the AFL Grand Final with one of the Richmond players joining them on stage to sing backing vocals after the match still in his kit.
No problem filling the MCG. Crowd of 100,021 with another 30,000 watching at Richmonds training ground Punt Road which is a few hundred metres away.

We live in an age of new puritanism.

And traditional hypocrisy.

Innit.

Re: NRL Grand final
Sexist and misognystic attitudes………..

Bwahahahaha

Don’t make me laugh Jonah, you sound like one of these PC types with crap like that, the game is predominantly played. Watched and supported by men, young men and like all young men some stupid things occurred, but the reaction has been totally over the top.

They needed to address some issues and did, but as new regimes take over at different clubs and feel they have to make there mark against sexism, homophobia its just getting stupid, take the Canberra raiders, got rid of the cheerleaders this year as some of the hierarchy felt it was an obstacle to woman attending games and supporting the club and appease spectators who they thought were "uncomfortable" with scantily-clad female dancers, so they replaced it with……………a pre match community dance, FFS!

Re: NRL Grand final
I see the NRL's attempts to move away from the older sexist and misognystic attitudes in the game have really made their mark on you Sydney!
