A lot of languages groups are missing that dental fricative (th in English) which makes it pretty common in English dialects affected by other languages. Or in people trying to learn English.

Re: Las Vegas shooting
The Irish & Caribbean dialects contain a lot of similar pronunciations yet it gets missed.

Ting = Thing
Tree = Three
Dat = That
Dare = There
Clot = Cloth

Re: Las Vegas shooting
again, thanks to the maritime trade.

one thing that i foud really odd - and it may just be a coincidence - is that both scousers and singaporeans say 'la' for exactly the same thing ie mate.

Jim79 1:13 Wed Oct 11
Re: Las Vegas shooting
I think its our regular usage of 'mate' as well that causes the confusion but as others have said there are wide similarities between cockney and Aussie

Re: Las Vegas shooting
Yes.

Not hard to see why given that Australian is just a skewed version of cockney.

Whenever I spoke over there, most thought I was Australian

Re: Las Vegas shooting
To be fair there are a lot of similarities... funniest thing I ever saw was waiting in a queue in a diner and a family of Geordies spoke to the girl at the counter about putting their name on the waiting list... I had to go over and act as an interpreter... the girl would not have it that we were both from the same country... Ha Ha Ha!!!

Just tell the thick cunts you're Michael Caine's uncle not Crocodile Dundee's.

Re: Las Vegas shooting
I get asked if I'm an Aussie sometimes also.

It's not really surprising there's similarities considering at lot of people from SE England ended up there.

Re: Las Vegas shooting
To be fair the typical American's only exposure to a Londoner is either Dick Van Dyke (Mary Poppins) or Bob 'Oskins (Who Framed Roger rabbit)... so unless you are singing about a Jolly 'Oliday or shouting out `Where's that bleedin' Rabbit' then they are as clueless as us thing Joey Tribiani (Friends) is a New York accent ..... How yo' doinnnnnnnn

Re: Las Vegas shooting
Charley, I have personal experience of this.

Whilst in Vegas and playing Black Jack an America couple started talking to me and asked where I was from and I said London. They proceeded to query 'I didn't realise London was in Australia'. Fucking stupid cunts.

Picks, problem is I'm a full blown cockney and they think our accent is Australian

I get that all the time... I remember being in a bar in Daytona Beach and the bar maid said to my wife ... "So how did a British girl like yourself meet an Australian like your husband"?

The next round of drinks she got ZERO dollars tip....

I hear it's a doddle pulling with an English accent. It remains to be seen whether you'd want to, charley.

Re: Las Vegas shooting
Surely with Drugs, Alcohol, Obesity, etc you have a choice in whether you take these things to a level that can kill you.

Very little people have a choice as to whether or not they get a bullet in the nut.
