Reckless financial advice?
I came across this article and cant really get my head around it.

Couple - he's a house music producer (actually a postman), she doesnt actually earn anything.

The plan - have three kids while retiring at the same time. Sell gaff, leverage money and buy houses up north.

The advice - rental income is taxable at CGT rate

WTF???

I once gave £25 to a bloke pretending he was doing up a West Ham-themed lifeboat. I wish I'd taken financial advice before doing something that fucking dopey.

Posties don't get anywhere near 40 grand a year either. They get about half that.

Fair play if all his bits on the side make up the rest.

Re: Reckless financial advice?
How does a postman afford a £600,000 property?! How does he get a mortgage for £320,000 on a £40,000 salary?!?

I notice this article is 2 years old, maybe they are both bankrupt, homeless and probably infertile now with all the hobo rapings they've recieved in Stoke Newington?

Buy to let investors beware methinks.

Re: Reckless financial advice?
The article actually says "My initial estimate is that a two-bedroom flat in London rents for £1,800 per month. If this income was divided between Natalie and Michael, it would all be taxed at either nil or a lower rate of income tax."

Rental income is always taxed under income tax. It's only the gain on selling the property, which is taxed at CGT rates.
