Got back from the Anderlecht final in the morning went straight to work and the team coach passed me as I was walking down Cannon Street.

Ending up kipping on Euston after the last match against Ipswich having stayed for the extra time and missing the last train back to Manchester.

Snow falling down outside. 6am back to Piccadilly and straight in work.

I must have been fucking mad!

Those games helped to cost us the league title Soldo. Ended up with a terrible backlog of fixtures which proved to be the team's downfall that year.

Playing the same team 7 times in a month is a bit bonkers
Have we played Bury 7 times in total?

Still can't believe that fantastic save by Banks from Hurst's penalty.

Even more depressing is that they didn't even need the four points they took off us.

Anyway, we last played on Christmas Eve in 1960. We lost to Tottenham. We played them again on Boxing Day. And lost again.

Admittedly, they were Champions at the end of the season.

I was looking for Christmas Eve matches of the past, and stumbled across this.

Also, the first top flight NE derby occurred at Roker Park on 24th Dec 1898. Newcastle lost 4-2.
