If you are a basic rate taxpayer, the first £1,000 of interest earned (not in an ISA), £500 for a higher rate taxpayer, is tax free anyway.

So unless you have bucket loads of money, look for the best return you can find, without necessarily worrying about putting your money in an ISA.

Of course the £1,000 allowance could be withdrawn at any time, as of course could the tax free status of ISA's.

depends what rate of tax youre paying. In any case probably better to put into your pension from a tax perspective.
