Can you see why this goal was ruled out?
Uganda 0 Ghana 0.

Into added time - Ghana score. Except they don't.

Did they run out of time? Or should we smell a rat?

Willtell - so are you maintaining that, based on your understanding of the offside rule, the officials were right to rule out the goal...?

Re: Can you see why this goal was ruled out?
Well you're not right in any case so incompetence or blindness doesn't come into it Russ.

The striker looked as though he was offside when the shot was taken so was still offside when the keeper pushed it towards him.

That is my understanding of the offside rule and is why the ref and lino disallowed it.

Re: Can you see why this goal was ruled out?
Completely understand why anyone would question this - there's an ongoing match-fixing row in the African qualifiers involving South Africa at the moment.

But it could very well just be as others have said - he didn't see that the bloke was on when the shot came in. I watched it a couple of times to make sure. Poor, but think back to Man Utd at home last season - it happens, and worse!

And Willtell is obviously blind or incompetent.

Re: Can you see why this goal was ruled out?
It's just a simple case of the linesman being incompetent. He flags because the player who scores the rebound is in an off-side position when he scores but he wasn't when the ball was first kicked. He flags him in the position from where he scores. It's just utter incompetence but I don't think its anything shady.

I don't know which I find more shocking.
The Lino for clearly not being able to comprehend the offside rule.
The Referee for apparently agreeing with the Lino that the attacker was on the edge of the 6 yard box when the initial shot was hit (Look where the idiot raises his flag!!)
Or finally that there at least 2 posters here who think it was offside...

Wrong.
The attacker was in an onside position when the shot took place, followed up and tucked it away.

You would only be correct if he was in an offside position when shot went off - which he wasn't

What it looks like is that the assistant was behind play and wasn't looking along the line when the shot went off. Human error, shit happens.

Re: Can you see why this goal was ruled out?
It wasn't a good goal. The striker was in an offside position when the original shot went in. The keeper fumbled it for the offside striker to score....only he didn't because he was offside. HTH.

Or if Harry Kane gets to the rebound.

Re: Can you see why this goal was ruled out?
Assistant referee error. The goal was good as the attacker was onside at the time the ball was played.

As for final whistle, the referee is the arbiter of time once the time is up, the time is up....irrespective of whatever the status of play (exception is a penalty kick).

Re: Can you see why this goal was ruled out?
if you are insinuating that the officials wanted the game to end as a draw, I would suggest the easiest and far less controversial way would have been to only play 1 or 2 minutes injury time, rather than 4.

Shocking decision regardless though

Re: Can you see why this goal was ruled out?
Offiside? Maybe the player closer to the lino was and he got confused as they all look the same/.....in that white kit...

The scorer was well onside even at normal speed let alone replay

Saw the replay. Onside. Close though so not the strangest thing that the Lino flagged. One of those things.

Fuck know what the linesman flagging for - very dubious

stepney hammer 11:32 Sun Oct 8
Re: Can you see why this goal was ruled out?
If you look at the replay at around the ten minute mark the linesman puts his flag up for offside. May well be the wrong decision but doesn't look that controversial.
