Worst football related thread on here for a while and that's saying something.

That raises a lot of questions.

Re: ...and the new captain is...
He's talking more openly than most captains already. That'll do for me.

Zabaleta is the ultimate clubman, but he could not defend Carroll as he described the striker’s challenges as “a bit nasty.”

The West Ham right-back said: “From my point of view, it looks aggressive, especially the second one when he knew he was on a yellow already.

“We can talk sometimes about situations with the referee and we can complain about some fouls, but there is nothing to say about the referee today. I think these two challenges, Andy’s challenges, were a bit nasty.”

Carroll’s behaviour is even more stupid, because he was talking up an England recall 24 hours earlier.

That sounds laughable, and Gareth Southgate is not going to pick him five years after winning the last of his nine caps when his temperament is so suspect.

Carroll’s red card underlines a worrying problem at West Ham and his dismissal is their 12th in the Premier League in Bilic’s two-and-a-bit seasons in charge – three more than any other team over this period.

Marko Arnautovic was guilty of another hair-brained dismissal in the defeat against Southampton and Zabaleta says they must be more disciplined.

“It’s the second time we have had a player sent off after a few minutes in the first half,” said the dismayed Argentinian. “We need to be more careful because in the Premier League, playing with one player less for 80 minutes is really hard.

“Then, we were 1-0 up and we need to be a bit more clever in these situations.”

The seasoned Zabaleta also advised Michail Antonio not to forget his defensive duties after the winger pushed his claims for an England recall by opening the scoring with his first goal since March.

“Playing with 10 men, it was sometimes hard for him to track back and work all the time, but you need to do that,” said the former Manchester City stalwart. “When you play as a winger, you have to be dangerous going forward – but you also have to come back to your position and help the team defensively.”

Excellent, the first step to dropping Noble then flogging him to a championship side.

Re: ...and the new captain is...
Lots of us on here said he could do well in a back three, it's a back four where he has much more to do that there's a problem.

Didn't he basically play his last two seasons at City only in a three?

Well we didn't all get it wrong boots ;o)

32 in modern football definitely isn't over the hill and the city fans love in told us all we needed to know about the bloke.

Proper professional, hopefully he'll rub off on some.

Re: ...and the new captain is...
I loved how everyone on this forum, myself included, wrote him off completely as being able to play in a 3 at the back formation.

His legs have gone
Not quick enough

Without even seeing him play

We all got him wrong

One of the first on the team sheet now...legend
