I’ve invented this thing, it’s fucking amazing! It’ll save some people a fuck load of time, I can make a prototype easily....
I need to patent it obviously, but after that how do I proceed?
I’m excited!

It seems you CAN patent a pissed up idea!
I’ve searched and no one else seems to have thought of it (or are using it at least)
I’ve been in touch with a company and I’ve been sent a pdf with all the relevant information

I've had a couple of patents in the past, processed through AA Thornton by a Mr John Lerwill. Great fella and very upfront and now somewhere near the top of the chain, probably.
But be warned, getting the patent is the easy part - and unless you have unlimited funds and money you will never be able to afford to protect it if your idea is very commercial and can be produced abroad.
(f anyone can guess why I have experience of the second paragraph, they can award themselves a chocolate star)

Hi, Fraser's Mrs here. I've worked within the patents field for 17 years. Your best bet is to find a company interested in your invention and get them to buy it and possibly just name you as the inventor. The UK patent process is pretty lengthy and expensive and then you may want further countries. Unless you're idea is ground breaking and you think you'll make a fortune you'll spend a good 20k patenting it. If you do want a patent attorney.pm Fraser and I'll see if i can give you details of a friend in London.

think of something; make it or get someone to make it; get someone to use it and pay for it , redesign it totally, then think about giving a lawyer money to protect your IPR

I did some work with the owner for IP and he is a really nice guy and they are a really nice company.
Just so you know as soon as you have emailed them the idea then it is yours to claim.
I have had some ideas before but a quick search shows that others have similar ideas. there are people that have the idea and don't do anything with it for either commercial or lazy reasons. then when you launch without checking they sue you as you have interfered with their IP.
So don't be scared of someone nicking the idea as you can then prove it was yours as it is dated.

My nan run out of selotape one year wrapping up presents so she used chewing gum instead.... we looked into a patent for `Nan's Gum stickydown stuff' ... nothing happened... I can see this being something like what my mad Nan done...

Boult wade tennant Holborn office filed UK, HK and EU patents for me, the later being unsuccessful. They will research and tell you whether there is any prior art and whether they believe your invention patent is unique and likely would be approved before application. You can search yourself to see at the uk ipo, euipo, uspto and wipo
